Several people have been wounded in a shooting at a shopping centre at Houston in the US state of Texas, reports say.

Local media report that the police shot the suspect, but nearby residents were asked to avoid the area.

Houston police said they did not believe any other people were involved in the shooting.

They said on Twitter they did not know the "exact number or severity of injuries".

9. There are two things at work.

First, southern states tend to have higher capital punishment rates.

Second, Texas is the second largest state by population, so you'd expect it to have more X, where X is a population-related phenomenon, than every state except California.


That accounts for the ranking, in other words, for the observations in the OP (and elsewhere). For deviations from strict linear correlation, you have to look elsewhere.

10. Perfection when it comes to first appearances is an unattainable goal.

But something needs to be given for a description, so you do your best.

Now it's being too cautious in avoiding anti-Muslim bias.

Now it's not being sufficiently cautious in avoiding anti-AA bias by relying on less than perfect first impressions--given where the incident in Houston happened, light-skinned AA isn't a bad assumption for non-white non-Latino. There's a decent Indo-Pak population to the NW a ways, but a much larger, closer AA population.

that you rarely hear "descriptions" of a suspect when the crime is committed by someone who is white. This is something that has been discussed in-depth over the past 20 years. There are many "light skinned blacks" out there but that is not what comes to mind when someone says "black male with a revolver".
