Mike Pence: Donald Trump will “speak the truth” during Monday’s debate

Source: CBS News

With the first presidential debate just one day away, Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence says his running mate, GOP nominee Donald Trump, will “absolutely” tell the truth when he’s up on the debate stage.

Pence said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” that he was confident of his running mate’s ability to adhere to the facts when asked whether his candidate will be “truthful” Monday night.

Trump has repeatedly made statements on the campaign trail that have proven to be false, including during the one other primetime event at which both Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton appeared: a Commander-in-Chief forum on national security issues in early September. That night, Trump said he was against the Iraq War from the beginning; in reality, his criticism of the war appeared to start in 2004, a year after the war began.

Asked by moderator John Dickerson the first time whether Trump will be “truthful” in his statements during the debate, Pence replied: “I think Donald Trump always speaks straight from his mind and straight from his heart.”

Pence also stated that the moderators should not fact check the candidates.

SO.... if it's even an issue whether Don-the-Con will lie... AND if his running mate even needs to talk about it.... AND given Don-the-Con's propensity to lie....AND with his campaign not wanting to be fact-checked..... WE CAN BE ASSURED THAT DON-THE-CON WILL BE LYING OUT OF HIS ASS.

not been able in the past year to uphold, coming out truthful on Monday will be a big change for Trump. He will not be able to say he is the greatest, it would be a lie and he does not have policies in which to deliver on the promises he has presented in the past year. Good luck Pence, we know he will lie.

He will very carefully throw out lie after lie in an attempt to throw the debate completely off topic and try to force Clinton to have to waste time responding to whatever outrageous claims he makes. It'll be up to the moderator to halt that kind of nonsense immediately - even if they have to cut his mike.

Yeah, maybe so, but that's why he has such trouble being honest: His mind and heart are seriously afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which compels him to lie about himself and his many enemies in order to manipulate people.

Edit: After rating over 200 of Trump's claims, PolitiFact.com found only 15% to be true or mostly true, and only another 15% to be half true, whereas 70% were either "Pants on Fire" lies (19%), just plain false (34%), or mostly false (17%). Lying IS Trump's "heart and mind." Therapy might have helped when he was younger, but there isn't any way he can change now.

Trump's Narcissistic Personality Disorder compels him to lie about his abilities and accomplishments to make himself look better, to lie about his enemies to make them look worse, and to lie when he feels the need to lash out at someone who has slighted him. And most dangerously he lies in service of his demagoguery, because he cannot stop trying to manipulate people into voting for him.

tRump is now going to pivot to the truth. Well, isn't that special? At best he will just confuse the undecided voters over who the REAL tRump is. At worst, he will enrage his base. He has trained them well to expect the usual thinly disguised dog whistles and racist rants. The rest of us will probably inflict damage to our eyes with the eye rolling that will ensue the minute he opens his mouth.

I heard Pence this a.m. on Face the Nation and his insistence that tRump just speaks from his heart and mind is the biggest crock of crap to anyone who has been following these two clowns. tRump lies and then Pence interprets what tRump really meant to say. Just what we need running the White House. Well, at least tRump said one thing right.....he likes to leave people off balance so he can be "unpredictable".

Then it would be to Trump's advantage for the moderators to fact check the candidates. That being the case then I think we can be absolutely sure that Mike Pence is lying here when he says Trump will tell the truth. It is what they do 70% of the time after all - and that 70% doesn't even include the "somewhat true but misleading" statements.

Are they trying to shore up their base alone? They definitely won't be picking up any Latinos or women or blacks as a result of this debate. They must just be trying to quell fear amongst their white power base, who are scared to death that Hillary will hand him his balls in public. "Speak the truth" is dogwhistle for "say whatever it takes no matter the consequences to get under Hillary's skin". He's sending a signal that he doesn't care what the repercussions of his lies are in the press afterward.
