Kasich camp bashes Priebus, warns of national GOP 'wipeout'
Source: Politico
Ohio Gov. John Kasich's war with the national Republican Party exploded into the open Sunday night, when his top adviser thrashed GOP leader Reince Priebus and hinted that the presidential election may be out of reach for Donald Trump.
The statement, issued on official campaign letterhead, followed remarks by Priebus earlier Sunday suggesting the party might block the Ohio governor from running for president again because he has refused to support Trump.
"Thankfully, there are still leaders in this country who put principles before politics," said John Weaver, Kasich's adviser, adding, "The idea of a greater purpose beyond oneself may be alien to political party bosses like Reince Priebus, but it is at the center of everything Governor Kasich does."
Weaver derided Priebus as "a Kenosha political operative," referring to Priebus's Wisconsin home, and said the three-term Republican National Committee leader should be thanking Kasich for "an inclusive, conservative vision that can actually win a national election."

Conservatives would still sell their daughters into slavery if they thought it would benefit their political career.
"Conservative" simply means rob the poor to help the billionaires and corporations, obviously. If they want to see a doctor, they can pay cash.

(10,252 posts)I would never vote for him. I'm don't like his politics, especially his anti-abortion stance, but he is a decent human being. He practices civil discourse without resorting to the vulgar insults and name calling ala Trump. The GOP needs men like Kasich to put the brakes on their run-away extremeism.

(7,006 posts)The extremes on BOTH sides is why individuals like Kasich are cautious about doing simple things such as negotiating with the other side of the political fence. Frankly negotiation is how EVERYTHING else outside of politics strangely - get things done.
Meanwhile as a observer of Ohio politics in Michigan, Kasich even as a Republican would have been better than putting up with extremist Governor Rick Snyder for the past 5 years and nine months -- who is the REAL conjoint twin of Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

(7,006 posts)Anyone that can't negotiate with the other side when approriate in politics -- as America is a Democracy and negotiation is sometimes required -- as in sometimes flipping GOP votes for POTUS -- as Hillary Clinton says if Republicans are disillusioned with the RACIST, BIGOTED, CLOWN of Trump are welcomed to vote for her and against everything he stands for.
On this one, Kasich is right on point about the Racist, Bigoted, Clown Show that Trump represents.
So, does this answers your cyber-hole question or are you still confused.

(10,252 posts)I'm tired of the GOP demonizing Dems with vicious, vile, and vulgar ad hominem attacks, because they got nothing else. I don't see many Dem politicians behaving that way. But I do see many Dems in social media doing it. I'm tired of it where ever it occurs. Surely we are better people than that? We all of us need to be more mindful about what we say. (54,403 posts)First, the likely part:
Kasich sees Trump going down in flames. If there's any justice in this world (and not too much Republican electoral fraud), he's right. If it weren't for Citizens United money, Trump would already be considering LBJ's win over Goldwater in 1964 and Nixon's win over McGovern in 1972 to be cliffhangers. As it is, no sane person would bet on Trump capturing the White House. Kasich counts on being the one guy still standing in 2020 to cry "I told you so!" and pick up the pieces.
However--for him to have any pieces to pick up, the following has to happen:
The Republicans have to retain a Senate majority, so that they can block most or all of Hillary's nominations, especially to the Supreme Court (they'll probably let her have her cabinet). They may even have a hard time even if they do retain a tenuous majority (say 51 seats), as some Republican Senators don't want to go down in history as total assholes. Some, of course, don't even have a clue what history is (Joni Ernst, e.g. or the boys from Alabama, Utah, Arkansas and Wyoming). Some do, though. Not all of them are pig farmers (and in the case of many of them, the "farmers" is optional).
IF we pick up the Senate, then the road is clear to a majority on the Supreme Court, plus bills and nominations get to--and through--the Senate Judiciary Committee on a timely basis. Progress has a real chance, and the presidential prospects of Kasich or anyone like him in 2020 go down in inverse proportion. We may not have an obvious Obama on the roster this time around, but we have a few years to groom one while Hillary and her administration plow the road. The make-up of the Senate will decide if that road is full of boulders, fallen trees and sinkholes, or a freshly paved four lane highway.
