Trump Calls Former Defense Secretary Gates a 'Clown'
Source: MSN/NBC News
Donald Trump derided former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, calling the national security official a "clown" and a "mess."
The attacks came after Gates expressed concern about Trump's readiness to be commander-in-chief in a Friday op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. Gates, who served under both Republican and Democratic presidents, wrote that both Trump and Hillary Clinton "have a credibility problem in foreign affairs" before singling out the Republican nominee as "in a league of his own" and "beyond repair" on security issues.
"Mr. Trump has been cavalier about the use of nuclear weapons," Gates opined. "He has a record of insults to servicemen, their families and the military, which he called a 'disaster.' He has declared our senior military leaders 'reduced to rubble' and 'embarrassing our country' and has suggested that, if elected, he will purge theman unprecedented and unconscionable threat. As of late, he appears to be rethinking some of these positions but he has yet to learn that when a president shoots off his mouth, there are no do-overs."

"We had a clown today, an absolute clown, Robert Gates," Trump told a crowd. "He's supposed to be an expert. He's been there forever ... he goes out and he says negative things about me. I never met him. I never talked to him. Believe me, I am so much better at what he's doing than he is."

A man with god complex with the nuclear codes. We might as well start referring to him as Kim Jong Trump.

(1,907 posts)Gates or anyone can listen to him and figure out he would not be able to keep his cool. And that not only has he already been causing problems, but would reek havoc with the U.S. status world wide.

with him is a 'clown', so he's a typical CEO surrounded by YES MEN until
the whole one-sided hubris drives the company into bankruptcy.
I have to think the GOP mainstream or what's left of it - Mitt may even
surface in October - will do all they can to save their country and
the world.

the writer interviewed psychologists and police detecives and they all said that
Trump has very easy "tells" for his lies ..... when somedody says "I am going to
tell you the truth" or "this is the real story" they knew the person was going to lie.

(42,641 posts)they will admit that he lies, but somehow they hope/assume that this time he is telling the truth. It is sad to hear, and their disappointment will be great.

(12,448 posts)--we expected a presidential candidate to observe the basic rules of decorum?
--calling someone names would be roundly criticized on all sides?
--the lack of even minimal knowledge of foreign policy, the Constitution, and how the Federal government works would be disqualifiers?
I do. Even George W. Bush...and the gods know I despised him...even HE didn't, as far as I know, call anyone names that sounded like they came from a schoolyard. Trump talks like a thug. His speech reminds me of Tony Soprano, except Tony was a nicer guy. Smarter, too.

Then right back to his hysterical complaints about his opponent's uncivil name-calling.

(24,736 posts)Is someone like Gates needs to absolutely lose it and go off on him on national TV. This equanimity is not going to cut it.

(47,482 posts)any criticism directed at him and throwing it at someone else. When Hillary criticized his temperament, he turned around and said the same thing about her. "Clown" is a word that has been used over and over again to describe Trump and now he throws it at Robert Gates because Gates said something negative about him. That is like trying to hurt a skinny adversary by calling him "fat". His use of insults tends to be rather indiscriminate and very odd.

(11,145 posts)"He's a mess, okay, he's a mess," Trump said of Gates. "Look what he gave us, look at the mess of all these people that have been there for so many years. Look what we have, look at the Middle East.
"We're in worse shape than we were 15 years ago by a factor of 10," Trump said. "Much more importantly, the lives that we lost, because we're dealing with incompetent people, we're dealing with stupid people. We're dealing with people like Robert Gates that don't have a clue and then when they leave office, they criticize everybody.
I can't believe the pukes gave us this moron.

(23,148 posts)Gates just has to remind everyone that trump has a six lane yellow stripe running down his bovine backside that doesn't scare terrorists at all. Everyone knows that trump was too scared to put on a pair of military boots and carry a gun for his country. He's a coward through and through. Nobody's scared of Trump except his own country, and we all know his greatest threat is causing nuclear winter for everyone because of his thin cowardly skin.
