A bomb that exploded in New York City was an act of terrorism, Governor Andrew Cuomo says, but no link to international groups has been found.

Mr Cuomo said significant damage had been caused and "we were lucky there were no fatalities". Saturday night's blast in Manhattan injured 29 people.

Some 1,000 extra security personnel are being deployed to NY transport hubs.

Mr Cuomo said: "Whoever placed these bombs - we will find them and they will be brought to justice."

Did they ever catch whoever was behind the Central Park blast?

I ask because that involved the homemade explosive TATP, which is tricky to make, and previously used in the 2016 Brussels, 2015 Paris and 2005 London attacks.

Be interesting to find out what it was in this case.

Separated by less than 100 miles and less than 12 hours apart.

Bombings are sufficiently rare, that no connection at all between them strikes me as low probability.

If I was investigating, that alone would be enough for me to invest some resources into seeing if there are any additional connections.

ISIS likes to sometimes kill the most vulnerable in the sickest way, so that explains targeting the blind.

the question and given the fact that there was few injuries I suspect the goal wasn't to cause harm but rather influence the election and the GOP does have a bad habit of exploiting things like this thus my speculation that it will end up being a Trump supporter.

the use of the pressure cooker filled with nails is the exact technique used in the Boston Marathon bombing, and the terrorists (if I may call them that) in that case learned all about how to do it through ISIS' various media outreach and education efforts.

likely alot of people and yes i am aware of the one that went off where there was going to be a race but if as i suspect that this was done purely to try and goad people to for Trump then i am willing to bet that it was remote detonated.

The Governor is dismissing the possibility of an international terrorist plot. Hate to say this, but he's probably right figuring that the known international terrorist acts are usually far more devastating and targeted to claim as many victims as possible.
So that leaves our own homegrown kooks as likely suspects.
Over the past week, police in Fort Pierce FL arrested the somewhat hapless arsonist whom torched a local mosque. For some reason, the media artfully avoided the suspects FB page endorsement of Herr Trump.
Certainly I am not suggesting a link between the arsonist and the NYC incident, but one has to ask themselves: which side of the American body politic is more prone to these acts?

Surveillance video from Saturday shows a man dragging what appears to be a duffel bag with wheels near the site of the explosion on West 23rd street about 40 minutes before the blast, according to multiple local and federal law enforcement sources. Video shows the same man with what appears to be the same duffel bag on West 27th street about 10 minutes later, multiple law enforcement sources said.

In the video, the man leaves the duffel bag where police later found an unexploded pressure cooker. After he leaves, the video shows two men removing a white garbage bag believed to contain the pressure cooker from the duffel bag and leave it on the sidewalk, according to a senior law enforcement official and another source familiar with the video.

Investigators have not determined the relationship between the two men and the man dragging the duffel bag, the sources said.
