No, the Federal Government Will Not Kill 45,000 Horses.

Angry animal advocates can calm down: Tens of thousands of wild horses and donkeys will be spared the threat of an untimely death.
The federal government said this week that it will not consider a suggestion to euthanize the animals or sell them to slaughter.
The pronouncement, issued by the Bureau of Land Management, followed a public outcry over an advisory boards recommendation on Friday that the agency kill or sell all of the 45,000 horses and donkeys in its custody that cannot be adopted.
In a statement and blog post in response, the Humane Society of the United States described the recommendation as unhinged advice, a complete abdication of responsibility, and a sort of Final Solution.

(22,651 posts)But they'll pay a good old boy 'private contractor' $3,000 each to run wild, terrified animals into steel pipe corrals & directly into a stock trailer. They don't get paid for the foals who can't survive a 40 miles stampeed anyway.

(7,581 posts)It's horrible what they do to horses - including foals. My mare has a huge wound on her back end and if I hadn't bought her, that would have gone into the food chain. They've shopped horses loaded with bute and antibiotics. They are in Balstrop, Louisiana and after selling a horse with a horrid infection to a rescue, they are being investigated by the USDA. I'll never eat meat again.
