Despite gestures, Trump is still the least transparent U.S. presidential candidate in modern history
Source: Washington Post
Donald Trump made what his campaign billed as two major disclosures on Wednesday. First, an attorney provided a timeline of his Slovenia-born wifes immigration status. Then, amid questions about his health during a television interview, Trump pulled some medical test results out of his blazer pocket.
Yet despite these high-profile gestures, Trump remains the least transparent major presidential nominee in modern history. He is the first since 1976 to refuse to release his tax returns. He has declined to provide documentation of the tens of millions of dollars he claims to have donated to charity. He has yet to release a comprehensive accounting of his health. And, while Wednesdays letter about Melania Trumps immigration from her home country offers a few new details, there is no documentation to back up the claims.
At the same time, Trump and his aides are criticizing rival Hillary Clinton as secretive and demanding more information from her about her emails and health. Many Democrats also see Trumps refusal to release basic information as hypocritical since for years, he was one of the loudest voices demanding that President Obama release his birth certificate to prove he was born in Hawaii and qualified to be president. Trump also called on Obama to release his college applications, school transcripts and passport applications.
Trumps campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, played down Trumps need to release health records on MSNBC on Tuesday: I dont know why we need such extensive medical reporting when we all have a right to privacy.

Nice piece by WaPo calling out Trump's stunt on Dr. Oz. CNN, of course, gave it full coverage.

(49,047 posts)I've seen his height reported as both.
Apparently he says he is 236 lbs this September: http://www.adn.com/nation-world/2016/09/14/trump-health/
286 lb is a better estimate of his weight. That is Severely Obese at either height (36 and 37 BMI), according to official guidelines (over 35 BMI).
Does it look like he weighs only 236?
A report http://www.inquisitr.com/3511029/donald-trump-weight-obese/ says that on Dr. Oz he says he weighs 267: Obese. He also now reports his height as 6 foot 3 inches. Apparently he gained an inch on the campaign trail. And that's after he says he lost 15 pounds. http://www.people.com/article/donald-trump-lost-weight-campaign-trail
CNN reports both weights, 236 and 267: http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/14/politics/donald-trump-dr-oz-weight/
Some websites (celebrity clickbaits) report him weighing 198 or 200 lb, but I haven't found a reliable source for that figure. It may have been put out by tRump some time in the 1980s when it was more believable but surely even then a lie.

(50,567 posts)maybe we need such extensive medical reporting when you're running for leader of the free world, and the American people have the right to know their president isn't going to keel over dead two weeks after taking office.

(15,557 posts)When are they going to do some real journalism such as asking them policy questions? Oh, yeah, the lightweights they call "journalists" these days march in lockstep with the media owners.
Let's be honest here, folks. The majority of Americans don't read the Washington Post or NY Times or look for genuine news online. They ARE influenced by the fluff they see on TV or hear.
I fear the younger people won't GOTV and we need them to vote! You hear that millenials? This senior citizen needs you to vote, and not for this jackass who's getting all the media attention.

(15,557 posts)You think for one minute that they'll think about all the bizarre things they've heard and seen about Trump or all the things Hillary has accomplished and worked for in her career and the experience she would bring to the office? No, the thing that captures their attention one or two weeks out from the election and that the media play over and over in their loop is what they'll base their vote on.
This week it's Hillary's health. Geez, talk about a double standard. I thought we'd gotten beyond that since I was a young woman, but apparently we haven't. Can any sane person say that they think Trump is the picture of health? Egads. He looks like an obese, pasty-white, sloppy, old man and she always looks so professional.
