Hillary Clinton has pneumonia, says doctor, after exit from 9/11 ceremony

Source: The Guardian

Hillary Clinton has pneumonia and has been advised to rest, the Democratic presidential nominee’s doctor said on Sunday, after Clinton abruptly left the 9/11 memorial ceremony in downtown Manhattan because, her campaign initially said, she “felt overheated”.

“Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies,” Dr Lisa R Bardack said in a statement. “On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule.

“While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”

On Sunday morning, Clinton left the Ground Zero ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks after an hour and 30 minutes. Video posted by a bystander to Twitter appeared to show the former secretary of state, extremely unsteady and supported by aides, being helped from the curb into a vehicle. The video could not immediately be verified.

Had it twice. You are sapped of all energy for quite a long time. Like a couple of months. When the doc says rest he means it. You almost don't have any choice. You're wasted. Fortunately, she obviously allowed the doctors to make it public. Now at least she can maybe get the rest she needs instead of trying to fake it and probably get much worse.

You can have good old "walking pneumonia" for weeks before you finally realize you're sick. For me the tell-tale sign was a low-grade fever that would keep coming and going. Wake up feeling great in the morning and by evening worn out at about 100-101 degrees. And on the other end of it, when you think you feel better, you're really not. Takes time. Especially with busy life like HC.

And her md deliberately said nothing about the kind she has.

To make things worse, not all bacterial pneumonia now responds to antibiotics. MRSA adds even more trouble if that is what affects her.

She should be in bed for a week. At least. The last time I had pneumonia, it took a good month for me to even start to feel human again.

Either way, regardless of whether she has viral pneumonia or bacterial, both are potentially fatal, even with good care. It is not a condition to trifle with.

In the same way, some people scoff at the flu. Yet influenza epidemics killed more people after WW1 than did bombs, shells or bullets. Another not uncommon condition that can be fatal. And hard to treat.

Also NOTE:

About three weeks before I got back.

The weirdest thing was the inability to control my body temperature. Drink hot tea...incredibly sweaty. Some cold ginger ale? Shivers.

The first week was toughing it out and sleeping upright. Well, I really could not sleep. My neighbor's heard me cough at night.

But three days of antibiotics plus codeine syrup plus those pearls that did whatever...sleep.

Lost 15 pounds, which was nice.

And oh the phlem that came up once I was recovering. That was a lot.

Not wanting to miss any work, I continued like a good soldier, commuting on public transportation, and ended up in Emergency covered with EKG post-it-notes. Pleurisy.

That said, who knows what she might have picked up, handshaking and mingling for over a year, that evolved into a serious condition. Pneumonia is no joke, and you don't choose to contract it.

The media and Repugs (what's left of them) will spin this into bubonic plague proportions. Meanwhile, I'm digging in my heels to yell foul at all the smears and innuendo they've been hurling at her.
