Lawsuit: Tennessee school officials knew of athlete abuse

Travis Loller, Associated Press

Updated 4:54 pm, Friday, September 9, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A lawsuit by a Tennessee high school basketball player who was raped and assaulted by teammates claims school officials knew athletes were being abused but did nothing.

The victim, identified only as John Doe, was a freshman at Ooltewah High School in December when he was held down by two older players while a third forced a pool cue into his rectum, tearing his bladder. Last week, one of the boys was convicted of aggravated rape and all three were convicted of aggravated assault.

A lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in Chattanooga claims coach Andre Montgomery told players after the assault, "We're a family and what goes on in the family stays in the family."

They are defective people.

It was helpful to get the deeper story on what was happening in that school, and that town.

Crazy the adults screwed their own reputations trying to defend these creepy sadistic brats, and the detective totally disrespected his own duty.

One's heart really goes out to those kids who couldn't have had any idea what was in store for them at the hands of the older teammates.

Thank you for taking the time to locate this useful information, and updates. It really did help illuminate this totally avoidable tragedy.

Kinda glad they did.

There's no way people of that ilk should be educating, administrating, coaching or in any way running a public facility.

They need to be kept away from youths, too, now and forever.

I do not understand how these individuals, aside from being sadistic assholes, would think cramming a pool cue in someone's butt is fun. Where does that come from?? And for the coach to know its happening, repeated abuse is happening right there in his locker room, and he does nothing to stop it. I cannot wrap my head around it.
