NRA endorses Democrat Koster over Republican Greitens for Missouri governor
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
After a primary election season that featured the Republican candidate for governor shooting guns and blowing things up, the National Rifle Association on Tuesday endorsed his opponent, Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster.
The NRA Political Victory Fund said Kosters commitment to the Second Amendment earned him an A rating.
For over 17 years, he has fought to preserve the constitutional rights of law-abiding Missourians, said Chris W. Cox, chairman, NRA-PVF. The NRA is proud to endorse Chris Koster and we urge Missouris gun owners and sportsmen to get out this November and vote to elect a governor with a proven record of fighting to preserve the Second Amendment.
The announcement came as Republican newcomer Eric Greitens, a former Navy SEAL, was campaigning in Springfield and Chesterfield with Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence.

It's a republican running against a "Democrat." After serving as a republican in the state senate, he switched parties to run for attorney general as a Democrat. Evil vs. less evil. I think there are ways that he will be much less bad, but he's closer to our current governor than he is to the GOP candidate. So, MO will keep executing people and will slip further into redstate land.
I saw him speak once, and he talked about what republicans and Democrats agree on. Education, healthcare, and deregulation. The outcome will suck, but maybe slightly less if we elect Koster. The GOP candidate would give the republican general assembly more power and we would be in much worse shape than with this NRA loving DINO.
Koster was also endorsed by police unions. BUT he opposed right to work laws that republicans have been pursuing for 10 + years. It will absolutely happen with an R governor.

(18,705 posts)Of support for a Democratic cadidate.
Interesting since when a pro gun control group endorsed Republicans, some DUers jumped right on that band wagon
Don't vote party, vote gun violence. That's why Gabby Gifford's has endorsed two Republicans for senate. The two have consistently voted against the NRA and for her that's the most important issue for the short term.
Even if it is for only one or two election cycles, if the NRA's mythological omnipotence can be defeated and shown for being a mile deep and an inch wide it is worth it.

I still recall the support we saw when Bloomberg set his sights on Democrat who wasn't firmly enough in the gun control camp. That the end result was tea party member Tom Cotton took over a Senate seat was irrelevant. Gun control seems to be an issue that trumps (no pun intended) everything else.

Koster will continue the effort to stop right-to-work. The NRA and FOP endorsements will help Koster win Missouri. I fully support that. We don't need to lose another office to republicans because our guy isn't pure enough.

(18,705 posts)For people whose Democratic candidate is a "gun humping coward"?
Or in those districts where gun control groups have endorsed the Republican incumbents over their Democratic Challengers?
