LePage apologizes, says he is considering resignation

Source: Portland Press Herald

"The governor, in a radio interview, says he doesn't know whether he will finish his second term because of the impact of his recent statements on race and drugs, and his attack on Democratic Rep. Drew Gattine."

I can't read the rest of the article because I used up my freebies for the month. Considering resignation is pretty big deal, but I still doubt he will actually do it. It would be the best thing he ever did if we went through with it, in my opinion.

Update: They changed the article title to "In the morning Gov. LePage says he might resign; by afternoon he discounts the idea"

Now is he is saying maybe he won't resign.

Gov. Paul LePage raised the possibility Tuesday that he may not finish his second term, amid mounting pressure from Democrats and members of his own party to amend for his recent actions.

“I’m looking at all options,” the Republican governor said while appearing on WVOM, a Bangor talk radio station. “I think some things I’ve been asked to do are beyond my ability. I’m not going to say that I’m not going to finish it. I’m not saying that I am going to finish it.”

He later said, “If I’ve lost my ability to help Maine people, maybe it’s time to move on.”

LePage also apologized repeatedly to Rep. Drew Gattine and his family for leaving a threatening voicemail last week.

He won't resign.
He thinks he did nothing wrong. He thinks he was called a racist. Of course, since the incident and reporting everyone knows he is a racist. They knew before this all broke.

From an article 4 days prior.
LePage left the message after a television reporter asked the governor what he would say to people who are calling him a racist. LePage asked who had called him that and the reporter said he had talked to Gattine, but didn’t say Gattine had called the governor a racist.

How Did Mild-Mannered Maine Get America’s Craziest Governor?

From Politico

He is skeptical of wind power—and sabotaged a $120 million offshore wind investment by Norwegian energy giant Statoil last year—perhaps in part because of a declared belief that some turbines “have a little electric motor that turns the blades [when the wind isn’t blowing] … so that they can show people wind power works.” A champion of charter schools and voucher initiatives, he has advised students: “If you want a good education, go to private schools. If you can’t afford it, tough luck. You can go to the public school.”
As for President Barack Obama, LePage said on the campaign trail that the president could “ go to hell” and reportedly told supporters at a private fundraiser that Obama “hates white people,” a remark LePage later apologized for, even as—in a feat of gymnastic oratory—he declined to confirm or deny having said it.
In June, LePage denounced a Democratic state senator for always wanting to “give it to the people without Vaseline.” He has likened the Internal Revenue Service to the Gestapo and, when criticized for the remark, claimed the agency’s enforcement of Obamacare would cause a slaughter comparable to the Holocaust. He told schoolchildren that Maine’s newspapers are full of lies and joked about bombing the largest of them, the Portland Press Herald, where I work and have been covering LePage’s antics.

As long as Chris Christie, Joe Arpaio, Rick Scott, Butch Otter, and about 200 assorted congressmen, senators, state-level officials and other assorted elephant turds are still at large, we don't need Paul LePage - who does more harm than good.

About the only good he HAS done in Maine is his work to advance the cause of bipartisanship: because Worthless Fuck automatically vetoes every single bill that crosses his desk, Maine's statehouse Republicans and Maine Democrats work together to craft bills at least two-thirds of them can support because the only way to accomplish anything for the taxpayers is to override a LePage veto.

BTW does anyone know if Worthless Fuck is related to the LePages who make glue?

Lepage was first elected Governor with a plurality of a whopping 37.6% in a 5 person race. I'm stunned that Maine doesn't have a run off system in place for the highest office in the state, but they don't.

That being said, I do think independents and parties other than Republican and Democratic are important. I wish we had an instant run off system in place where you make a first and second choice for your vote. That way if no candidate gets 50% of the vote, the second choices would come into play.

If they have ranked voting during the primaries, they don't have the cost of having run off election. Candidates can concentrate their resources on the primary instead of having to worry about having to finance their campaign through the primary AND the run off.
