House Conservatives Plot Coup Against Speaker Paul Ryan

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON ― House Speaker Paul Ryan’s re-election to his leadership post in January is fast turning into a potential showdown between establishment Republicans and conservatives looking to weaken the speaker and win changes to House rules.

Conservatives don’t have enough votes to oust Ryan (R-Wis.). But they say their coup movement shows his hold on the speakership is far more tenuous than he realizes. Denying Ryan re-election on the first ballot would undermine his political future and cast him as a conservative pariah, they say, and may give conservatives leverage to enact rules changes that would help them push their agenda for years.

“If he loses the speaker election, he’s not going to be president,” one conservative member told The Huffington Post on Monday.

...snip...

House Freedom Caucus members are discussing four major proposals, though the talks are in early stages and haven’t gained formal backing. Their ideas include increasing caucus representation on committees, bulking up subcommittee staff with hard-liners who could be groomed for election, allowing the GOP House campaign arm to collect contributions for the Freedom Caucus that could be directed to conservative candidates, and clarifying rules-suspension votes.

the disappearance of Anthony Weiner as a viable politician will look like a snail crossing an airport runway. Lengthwise. And about as attractive. He would not serve a week as minority leader.

If we do not take the house, they will still toss him and leave the house without a leader. There is no one, not a person, nary a soul, who could unify the GOP in this day and age. They won't have anyone in charge, the house will fall apart, no legislation will be passed and Hillary's plans, even the good ones, will be stymied.

From every indication I have seen, we win the senate, we do not win the house, but we gain 5-10 seats. At least half of those gains will come against (if you can call them that) the more moderate parts of the GOP. That leaves the TeaParty in even greater control over the GOP membership, and destroys any ability of that branch of government to govern.

What happened to checks and balances?

I wish someone would sue the House for not doing its job. It could go to the Supreme Court...

Oh wait, I forgot, because of the GOP we don't even have a complete Supreme Court!

Never mind.

There's always the Netherlands! (since the USA disappeared in 2000)

We need a net 30 pickup to take the House; there are about 19 Republican seats (assuming we don't lose any) that are competitive.

...is worth two in that "net 30 pickup" column. We need to get 15 of those 19 and not lose any. And even if the Democrats don't get the majority, a close minority is a big help, particularly if we have a Democratic President and Democratic majority in the Senate.

The "batshit" crazy wing always thinks that only "they" are the true group that represents the party, and all the others are dinos or rinos ! Just look at the JPR site. They "claim" to bet the only real progressives, yet they also are promoting voting for Trump. I mean how batshit crazy can they get?

Whether or not we take the House (and I fervently hope we do!) they will continue to eat their own.

It's indicative of the state of the Republican party that Ryan is considered the sane one.
