Trump's big immigration reversal shaped by Christie, Giuliani says

Source: Newark Star-Ledger

Donald Trump's pivot away from his calls for mass deportations of millions of undocumented immigrants is the result of prodding by Gov. Chris Christie, according to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

And, Giuliani says, even more Christie-sourced changes to Trump's immigration stance will be forthcoming, like his call for tracking immigrant visas like Fedex packages, and using the E-Verify system to reduce illegal labor.

In an interview with NJ Advance Media on Thursday afternoon, Giuliani, a top adviser to the Republican presidential nominee, said Trump's recent reversal on immigration policy came after his inner circle for several weeks suggested a more nuanced, practical and humane approach in dealing with the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Asked if Christie was responsible for Trump's softening approach to immigration, the former mayor responded: "The answer to that question is yes."

Citizens would not be marked / bar coded / chipped.

Illegals (by definition) would not be marked / bar coded / chipped.

That should solve the illegal immigrant problem, right? :barf:

5. Christie defends 'FedEx' plan for tracking immigrants: 'I don't mean people are packages'

Gov. Chris Christie on Sunday defended his recent suggestion that the U.S. use FedEx technology to keep track of immigrants living in the country on visas, dismissing critics who say he's equating people with packages.

"I don't mean people are packages," the Republican presidential candidate said during an interview on "Fox News Sunday." "So let's not be ridiculous."

During a campaign stop in New Hampshire on Saturday, Christie said if he were elected to the White House, he would ask FedEx founder Fred Smith to work with the federal government to come up with a system tracks immigrants from the moment their visas begin.

"And then when your time is up, we go get you and tap your shoulder and say, 'Excuse me, thanks for coming. Time to go,'" Christie told the crowd.

NY Times: Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey said...that if he were elected president he would combat illegal immigration by...ask(ing) the chief executive of FedEx, Frederick W. Smith, to devise (a) tracking system.

“At any moment, FedEx can tell you where (a) package is: It’s on the truck. It’s at the station. It’s on the airplane,” Mr. Christie told the crowd in Laconia, N.H. “Yet we let people come to this country with visas, and the minute they come in, we lose track of them.”

He said 40 percent of illegal immigrants are allowed into the United States legally with a visa and then stay longer than their visa allows. “However long your visa is, then we...tap you on the shoulder and say, ‘Excuse me. Thanks for coming. Time to go.’”

First, of all, it's Sprint, not FedEx, that Christie should be talking to about implementing his plan:

Secondly, where would the tracking mechanism be installed? If it's on the visa itself, that raises the problem of the visa not always being where the visa holder is. The only alternative is to attach the tracking mechanism to the visa holder, like that movie Logan's Run:

Or something could be tattooed on, like what was done to Holocaust prisoners.

FedEx declined comment on the story...for some reason...More

In "Logan's Run" (the book and the movie), everyone had to have a "life crystal" implanted in the palm of their hand. The crystal measured their life expectancy (21 in the book, 30 in the film). On 'lastday', the crystal starts blinking, meaning you had to accept death, or run, and be pursued by the Sandmen.

I remember in history people being tattooed numbers on their arms and that didn't turn out too well for the people.
