Susan Collins considers Libertarian, write-in for president

Source: Bangor Daily News

PORTLAND, Maine — Sen. Susan Collins appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday morning from the WGME studios, explaining why she is not voting for her party’s presidential nominee.

Before going on “Face the Nation,” Collins sat down with CBS 13 and explained why she’s not voting for Donald Trump and who she could cast her vote for in November.

“Donald Trump simply lacks the temperament, the judgment, the knowledge and the self-control to be our president,” Collins said. “It wasn’t easy for me to disavow the nominee of my party.”

Earlier this month Collins made her feelings known in an op-ed in the Washington Post. Collins said her first choice for president was Jeb Bush, but once Trump clinched the nomination, she thought he might change.

I've heard from some repubs who won't vote for Trump say that if it's close in their state they will vote for Hillary. She will get some of these votes for sure.

than the right wing neocon alternative.

At least Libertarians are good on some civil liberty issues and parts of foreign policy.

When I go to isidewith.com I tend to agree about 50% of the time with Johnson and about 3-5% with typical Republicans.

I agree with Bernie about 99% and Hillary about 93% there.....

Publicly saying it to save face is one thing, actually voting in private is another.

It had to be harder to go public and it will influence many Republicans to at least consider his many stupid statements which support her contention that he is unacceptable.

There are many types of Republicans and I would quest considering that they long voted for both her and former Senator Snowe and King that Maine has many Republicans of the type the tea party is pushing out.

If you look at Collins' voting record she likely would not have that much trouble voting for HRC.

so I would believe her if she says that is what she is going to do. I don't agree with her on everything, but she is a honest woman who works hard (she has never missed a vote in her almost 20 years in the senate) and listens to fellow Mainers and she gets a lot of respect for that in Maine. She is generally a centrist. Libertarian probably suits her better than republican in some ways. She is pro-choice for example.

I've honestly never understood how or why Susan Collins ever was elected to the US Senate.

This isn't a principled move. This is a faux "see I'm not as much of a nut-bag as the rest" move. And it doesn't work.

That pretty much sums it all up right there, doesn't it? She supported a continuation of the worst, most corrupt Presidency in modern history, and wants a brownie point for correctly identifying a candidate who, improbably, would be obviously worse than that.

This is exactly why I view Republican defections from Trump with total contempt. They are concerned with the appearance presented by a candidate who dares to say what they all privately think.
