Bobby Kennedy assassination photographer Harry Benson issues a warning against Trump

Source: Breaking News

Glasgow-born photographer who watched his friend Robert Kennedy gunned down in the 1968 US presidential campaign fears Donald Trump's rhetoric could lead to more politically-motivated shootings.

Harry Benson, whose pictures of a dying Bobby Kennedy are among the most memorable images of the last century, said the current Republican candidate may have put Democrat lives at risk.

Trump said “second amendment people” could find a way to stop Hillary Clinton introducing tougher gun laws, adding: “That will be a horrible day.”

Benson, who has covered US presidential campaigns for more than 50 years, said he has never seen a campaign as “crazy” as Trump versus Clinton. . .

I remember them all, as a Boomer. I can't believe this kind of hatred is with us in 21st century America.

We need to be positive, not attacking and negative.

"“I’ve followed Hillary over the years, and clever people who know what they are talking about say she is very competent,” he said."

That's positive. Did you read the article? Not much of an attack there; He's just pointing out that the hate talk can get people shot.

Or else you wouldn't characterize what he said as "getting in the mud" or "attacking."

When they suggest assassinating our candidate, the proper response isn't to talk about the $15 minimum or our energy plan.

I was watching TV as it happened. I went upstairs to tell my husband. I woke him up and said, "He's been shot". I didn't even have to say who; he knew.

I still have the pastels I did of JFK, MLK and RFK. Sad times. Heartbreaking times.

They were so sad, and I recall seeing JFK's assassin killed on live TV! I spent 2 days in a bomb shelter during the Cuban Missile crisis. I remember folks being scared to death of Goldwater. I did the 'duck and cover' drill in my kindergarten. A lot of stuff happened we wouldn't want kids subjected to today.

my new husband, who was in the Air Force reserve, would be called up for Cuba. We moved from prime target are Chicago to prime target area LA County. The first time I heard sonic boom I was sure WWlll had started.

First thing we do when we get Congress and the Presidency back... we punish anyone who says Democrat as an adjective. It's Democratic, or you get slapped.

The photo of RFK dying being comforted by the Hotel bus boy, that was Bill Eppridge's for LIFE not Benson's.Both great photographers, but the image seared into national memory on that tragic day was by Bill Eppridge.
