Clinton to portray Trump economic plans as handouts for rich

DETROIT (AP) Hillary Clinton is set to go after Donald Trumps economic agenda, aiming to portray her rivals approach as offering handouts for the rich that could imperil the economy.
The goal of her speech Thursday afternoon at manufacturing company in Warren, Michigan, was to play up her focus on job development, public works projects and tax policy while trying to undercut the celebrity businessmans approach. Clinton was not expected to come out with any major new policies during her remarks.
She intended to try to make the case that Trumps agenda would benefit him and his wealthy friends, and to characterize his plans as an update of trickle-down economics, according to her campaign. Also look for Clinton to argue that Trumps drive to cut taxes on certain business income would benefit many of his companies.
Trump outlined a revamped economic package during an appearance in Detroit on Monday, and Clinton attempted to draw contrasts when she spoke at a rally Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa. She said that according to independent analysis under my plans, well create about 10.4 million new jobs. Under Donald Trumps so-called plans, we will lose about three and a half million jobs.

(6,241 posts)the headline, Salon? That implies that Trump's ideas AREN'T a giveaway for the rich. It makes it sound like a lie that Ms. Clinton is telling.
"Bill Clinton is the father of Chelsea."
"Bill Clinton is allegedly the father of Chelsea."
See how that one word changes the spin completely?
The truth is easy to, well, portray. Outright lies ("Obama is the founder of ISIS and they honor him." requires more finess.
The wording was weird

DETROIT In her first full-throttled rejection of Donald J. Trumps economic agenda, Hillary Clinton is expected to sharply criticize her opponent for advancing policies that would lift the ultra wealthy and cast middle-class and working Americans further into financial distress.
Presenting a contrast between two starkly different economic visions during a major economic speech in Detroit, Mrs. Clinton plans to call parts of Mr. Trumps tax plan his Friends and Family discount to benefit his ultra-wealthy peers and relatives. Faulting Mr. Trump for promising deep tax cuts for the wealthy and a gentler approach to financial regulation, she is expected to portray his proposals as reflective of traditional Republican thinking that would exacerbate the gap between rich and poor.
A Clinton campaign official who previewed the remarks, to be delivered on Thursday afternoon, summed it up as follows: Which candidate will stand up for working families and the middle class and actually deliver results, and which one has a plan that only benefits millionaires like himself?....................

(1,717 posts)those stinking trade deals are really just about the only issue
that Trump has, and Sec. Clinton needs to "trump" him on it.
In Michigan especially, people really hate NAFTA, CAFTA and
all the rest - and with good reason.
Just about the only possible way the Sec. Clinton can lose is
by letting Trump seize the trade issue and keep working it.
