A 23rd lien was just filed against the Donald Trump-run company that owns Trump National Doral Miami golf club.
This lien, which opens the way for a forced sale of Doral unless its paid off, was filed Aug. 9 by Straticon LLC, the Martin County-based construction firm in charge of part of the $255 million renovation of the famed country club.
According to the paperwork, Starticon says its still owed $236,472 for its work on the three-year project, which ended in June.

Trump's "just don't pay what you owe" business strategy works surprisingly well

(10,952 posts)agree to do business with Don the Con. He has had his reputation as Don the Con for quite a few years so I am starting to lose sympathy for idiots that were foolish enough to work with him. No job with Don the Con is worth it if you have to spend years and more dollars trying to get him to pay up.

(5,842 posts)His common excuse for shorting the contractors is that the work wasnt up to standard and full payment wasn't warranted.
As common as this appears to be I would think vendors would jack up the estimate with the anticipation he's going to renage on the quoted amount.

(7,901 posts)Just last month, Trump Endeavor managed to stave off an attempt by a mom-and-pop paint supplier, The Paint Spot, to force the sale of the club over the final payment of $34,000 for $200,000 worth of paint.
Democratic Party presidential wannabe Hillary Clinton has brought up the Trump companys payment issues routinely on the campaign trail.
Alan Garten, Trumps business attorney, pointed out that 18 of the 23 liens filed against the Doral owner have been satisfied.
Payments have been made, Garten said. On a project of this magnitude with hundreds of contractors, 20 liens isnt a big deal. Its a complicated project, and whats important is the fact things are getting paid.
It could have been in Manhattan, or Scotland...

(1,074 posts)Just curious - has anyone heard about any drop in attendance to trump's casinos or golf courses? I can't imagine anyone other than a trump supporter patronizing his places. I would love to know if any of his businesses have been affected!

(570 posts)I don't see how anyone but a supporter would still do business with him. Either that or insist on full payment up front. Taking anything less as a down payment would just be stupid. Of course, Trump supporters will still work for him- at least until his stiffing them puts them out of business.
I'm not a lawyer, but doesn't the sheer volume of broken contracts constitute a deliberate fraud? Why hasn't he faced criminal charges? Or could he in the future?
groundloop
(11,519 posts)THAT, of course, is how you can legally get away with breaking contracts. It's legalized stealing, and tRump is good at it.

the it won't happen to me belief is strong in small business.....
Also you might not know...lets say you sell materials to a company who gets a big contract with trump.
the contractor order a big order from you...you smile and ship....the contractor gets stiffed which mean you get stiffed.....
Ripple effect......Like when a big employer leaves town....The employees are not the only ones who take it in the shorts....the whole community does

In fact, The Paint Spot won a lawsuit against Drumpf and the judge awarded them $300,000.

Donald Trumps golf resort in Aberdeenshire has admitted it failed to comply with strict data protection laws after not registering with the UKs privacy watchdog, the Guardian can reveal.
The Information Commissioners Office contacted staff at the £30m resort near Aberdeen, Scotland, after it confirmed it was not registered under the Data Protection Act despite operating an extensive CCTV system and handling data on thousands of golfers and guests, its staff and suppliers.
