First Non-Travel Related Zika Case Reported In Palm Beach County
Source: Palm Beach Post
State health officials are investigating Palm Beach Countys first case of non-travel related Zika, Gov. Rick Scotts office announced Monday.
In a news release, Scotts office said the person recently had traveled in Miami-Dade County, which so far had been the only county in Florida to report locally transmitted cases of the virus.
The Florida Department of Health still believes active transmissions are only taking place within the identified area that is less than one-square mile in Miami-Dade County, Scotts office said, referring to an area that includes the popular Wynwood neighborhood of Miami.
Here is the full statement from Scotts office:
Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Health (DOH) is investigating one new individual with non-travel related Zika in Palm Beach County. The individual has recently traveled to Miami-Dade County and the departments investigation is underway to determine the source of infection. DOH has begun door-to-door outreach and sampling in the area and mosquito abatement and reduction activities are also taking place. DOH still believes active transmissions are only taking place within the identified area that is less than one-square mile in Miami-Dade County. More details will be announced when the investigation concludes. Governor Scott will be holding a roundtable on Zika preparedness in St. Johns County today and will be available to address this following the event.

(10,437 posts)I suspect its being under reported by govt agencies as a measure of public relations to lesson public panic....

(35,332 posts)Most cases are unremarkable.
One unspoken concern is any long-term effect it might have. Fine, you catch it and you recover a few days later. Some viruses do other things--measles resets your immune system, some viruses go dormant and resurface later.

(3,741 posts).... that is all anyone in Palm Beach will care about. So sad that the rich can't play golf at Everglades Club (Rush is a member), or swim at the B&T ( Bath and Tennis Club), or dock their boats a the Sailfish Club ..... these clubs allow Blacks and Jews in .... only to work in the kitchens, never as a member let alone a guest.
