TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie will spend Thursday in Washington working on transition planning and conducting meetings for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, sources familiar with the Trump campaign told NJ Advance Media.
Trump, for his part, is spending this afternoon in Maine at a campaign event in Portland, a state whose governor once repeatedly opposed his candidacy
Christie, who chairs Trump's transition team, is expected to return to New Jersey late Thursday evening, but not before he travels to New York to brief Trump, according to the sources, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to publicly discuss campaign matters.
Trump is scheduled to attend a rally in Des Moines on Friday.
Christie recently publicly broke with Trump over his criticism of a Muslim Gold Star family the military's euphemism for the surviving family of a U.S. soldier killed in action who appeared at the Democratic National Convention to criticize Trump.
The governor did not criticize Trump directly, but termed his mockery of Capt. Humayun Khan's mother's silence "inappropriate" and her grief "unfathomable."
On Tuesday, the governor told reporters at a Statehouse news conference that "You're not going to find me being critical of Mr. or Mrs. Kahn," whose son was killed in Iraq in 2004 by a car bomb after he ordered the men in his unit to safety.

(11,520 posts)Christie must be loving that job.... strut around and act like a bigshot, talk to a few reporters, get a little facetime on TV, eat at good restaurants ..... with absolutely zero chance of ever having his 'work' come to fruition.

(3,426 posts)It begins with the end of the run in his campaign for the gop nomination. As he looked down the dark roads leading back to New Jersey thinking about those shifting sands along the Jersey shores ,he thought to himself ,this is it. This is what it all came down to,it all came down to this. You can say Christie did a real bang up job obstructing traffic on the GWB. But the highway to hell he built all by himself is by any means of measure his signature achievement.
Christie had one last chance to stay in the game,to somehow remain relevant. All he had to do is take the oath, the I Benedict oath
fallowed by his pledge to serve the Donald.Yes and after he openly stated he is a catholic who happens to disagree with the pope.
The stage was set,he sold out and inserted the dagger into those that supported him to stop Trump. He turned coat on the GOP ,the gop that threw him under the bus when the going got rough.
He still has a few connections ,those few that may lend him their ears behind closed doors with no press around. The few that will not admit to having listened publicly, fore fear itself having taken hold. They listen to Chrisite's call to any of those who may be in doubt as to the future of the GOP, if there is one.,Serve the Donald ,it's the only way for the party to save itself. There is no thanksgiving to be had in the party of Bush. Only the Donald himself can take the party forward.
But Christie knows the score, it's every man for himself in the GOP-it is self survival at any and all cost.At the same time he knows there are those that are just like him and he is sure they need the Donald. Coffee,Tea or Chris Christie !
