Despite abuse claims, Grayson staying in Florida Senate race
Source: Associated Press
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Democratic leaders want Rep. Alan Grayson to go away. His ex-wife says hes abusive. Ethics questions dog him. Yet the liberal lawmaker is refusing to drop his bid for the U.S. Senate, and could upend the partys hopes that moderate Rep. Patrick Murphy emerges as the nominee against Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.
Grayson is counting on the partys most faithful voters to ignore the negative headlines and look at his record of championing liberal values. Murphy, a former Republican who has voted against President Obama on some key issues, now has the backing of President Barack Obama, and has raised far more money than Grayson.
Murphy is now focusing his campaign more on Rubio and less on Grayson.

(111,300 posts)All evidence points to his wife as the abuser, including video and a statement from their daughter.
Yes, it happens. It's only in one out of eight cases, but it does happen.

(111,300 posts)so I admit I haven't kept up with the latest.
Yes, he's a 1%er and yes he's done dodgy financial finagling. I just have to wonder if a Republican would serve the people of Florida any better.
I don't think so.

(111,300 posts)because he wouldn't be any worse?
Uh, no. Grayson at least showed up for work. Rubio rarely did and when he did, he voted against all of us and in favor of the 1%.
I'll agree he didn't propose bills and get them passed. However, people who don't think Rubio is any worse are in for an ugly surprise.
He is worse, a lot worse.

(2,570 posts)and change the subject when defense of it is less than tenable?
I'm saying that your "has never accomplished anything" is total BS given how the record shows his effectiveness and accomplishments as a legislator.
the current state of public opinion has nothing to do with that or what the record does to your baseless claims regarding his accomplishments, which no doubt far exceed your own.
I went through the same crap decades ago with a lying wife, and wound up with sole custody of my then 9 year old child. Here's to hoping he does too.

(2,570 posts)the art of deenial is strong with this one.
and how exactly does something politifact rated as "mostly true" (his claims to those legislative accomplishments) undermine that in any way?
Of course your lack of accomplishemnts aren't germane any more so than your baseless and erroneous claims regarding his accomplishments are. And if ad hom arguments aren't effevctive, why are you insisting that my effort here stems from Grayson culthood as opposed to simply championing the facts you either lack a command of or have a willingness to ignore or distort?
Oh that's right, because that's just another way you've now tacitly conceded (with another susbject change) that indeed, he has some accomplishments.
Gee what will you do for an encore -- change the subject again?

(9,688 posts)I've had my frustrations with the Democratic Party leadership over the years, but in this case the "establishment" is absolutely correct in its judgement not to support Grayson. If - God forbid- he wins the primary, there is absolutely no way he could win the general election. I hope he loses big, and then goes offshore himself.

(34,136 posts)Roque "Rocky" De La Fuenta, Pam Keith and Reginal Luster are running as well as the two headliners.
Grayson has worn out his chances and I don't want to vote for RINO Murphy so today I checked out the other three people running.
I've decided to vote for Reginald Luster in the primary. He has an impressive resume and I like what he has worked to support:
In 1988, Reginald returned to Jacksonville to begin his legal career as an associate attorney, and eventual law partner, with the Jacksonville insurance defense law firm of Mathews, Osborne, McNatt, Gobelman & Cobb. U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno appointed him as an assistant United States attorney with the United States Attorneys Office, Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division in 1994. He represented the federal government, agencies and employees in complex civil litigation. In 2000, Reginald worked at the Justice Department in Washington D.C. with the Civil Rights Division of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys. U.S. Attorney General Reno awarded Reginald the Directors Award for Outstanding Achievement in Furthering Equal Employment Opportunity.
In 2001, Reginald Luster returned to the private practice of law. He practices law in the areas of personal injury law, wrongful death law, insurance law, employment discrimination law and criminal defense law. He was invited to join the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2007. He also holds professional membership in the Jacksonville Bar Association and the D. W. Perkins Bar Association. In addition to his law practice, Reginald serves as a board member on charitable foundations providing college scholarships to graduating high school students.
On May 3, 2016, during an annual scholarship awards ceremony to High Potential students, Reginald delivered A Call to Leadership in Public Service announcing his candidacy for United States Senator from the State of Florida.

Since the powers that be are supporting Murphy, I expect him to win the primary and I will vote for the Democratic candidate in the general election. But I'd like the Florida and National Democratic Party to know that not everyone will jump on the bandwagon for whoever they prop up for us to elect!
