'It's time': Edward Snowden just issued a cryptic message on Twitter

Source: Business Insider

Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor turned whistleblower, issued a mysterious call for former colleagues to reconnect with him on Wednesday, tweeting "It's time" to his more than 2 million followers:

"Did you work with me? Have we talked since 2013? Please recontact me securely, or talk to @bartongellman. It's time. https://twitter.com/bartongellman/status/760841244704669697 …"

Snowden also quoted a tweet by journalist and author Barton Gellman, who said that he is seeking information on Snowden's work in the intelligence community so he can "tell it truthfully."

The cryptic tweet comes less than a week after Snowden exchanged Twitter barbs with WikiLeaks. The antisecrecy organization implied that Snowden was trying to win the favor of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in order to regain entry into the US.

Snowden is living in exile in Russia after leaking information about the NSA's surveillance programs in 2013. He has previously stated that his one condition for returning to the US would be the guarantee of a fair trial and the ability to argue his case before a jury against the charges he faces under the Espionage Act.

[hr][font color="blue"][center]Birds are territorial creatures.
The lyrics to the songbird's melodious trill go something like this:
"Stay out of my territory or I'll PECK YOUR GODDAMNED EYES OUT!"

3. The message is too cryptic to really determine what he is up to.

He must believe that Hillary is going to win although he is in Putin/Trump land, quite a conundrum. He must see that this is his best chance to get out of the life he made for himself. Didn't he always have a chance for due process?

4. I hope Hillary never issues any guarantees to this asshole. He & Assange may debate over tactics...

but they're birds of a feather. Even Wired magazine, who have been strong supporters of Assange, have distanced themselves from his latest shenanigan. I guess people of good character don't think it's a good thing to try and influence the outcome of our elections.

7. Time to damage the Democrats and the US with more leaks? Time to help the GOP and Putin some more?

Sorry, Snowden, by this time I am completely on guard regarding anything at all to do with WikiLeaks, Assange, Greenwald -- and you.

to be honest I just dont see that happening no matter who is president be it next year or 50 years from now.
No, if Snowden wants to come home he can but hes going to have to face the music of a trial unless he has something the government might want which I dont see happening considering the only information he has as far as we know is information he stole from the government in the first place.

He was always going to get a fair trial, and he was always going to be allowed to argue his case before a jury (personally if he wanted). His problem is that even with a fair trial he'll be found guilty, because he illegally gave himself CIA analyst-level clearance using his access as a sysadmin and stole who knows how many documents. Then he gave this stolen stuff to Greenwald & Poitras and Assange, then he ran to Russia and probably gave it to Putin's boys at RT while he became their poster child. His idea and expectation of a fair trial is a not guilty verdict. The law doesn't work that way, Eddie.

11. Snowdon wanted to use the whistleblower defense. However the espionage act doesn't allow that.

Obama used the nuclear option by charging him under the espionage act. I think Snowden has a point when he says he won't get a fair trial in the US. Recently even Eric Holder said Snowden should be able to use the whistleblower defense but thanks to Obama Snowden can't.

claiming if he loses it will be because the election is rigged but the truth is he will only lose if the majority of voters think he is a shitty candidate and claiming its rigged now is his way of trying to dodge the fact that he actually is a shitty candidate not to mention a shitty human being.

Julian Assange clearly is selective about what he releases and when, so his claims of just bringing transparency are bullshit. He is bringing transparency, but using it manipulatively for his own ends. Snowden seems to be at odds with Assange, but is in Russia which seems to be working in conjunction with Assange. He lives in Russia at Putin's pleasure. I do believe he got stuck there inadvertently, but to remain free doing what he does would not be an option in Putin's Russia, especially if it was adverse to their agenda. It's all above my pay grade, but there is too much going on here to view either of them as icons of transparency and free speech. They have a seemingly unique ability to collect this type of information and disseminate it, but they have personal (or other) agendas.
