Bill responding to LA-area teacher sex case fails

A bill making it easier for school districts to fire teachers accused of gross misconduct has failed to clear an Assembly committee.

Sen. Alex Padilla's bill came in response to a Los Angeles case where a teacher was arrested for lewd acts including spoon-feeding students his semen.

His SB1530 would have let school boards dismiss teachers instead of leaving the decision to a disciplinary commission, but only for violent, sexual or drug offenses involving children.
