GOP Rep. Richard Hanna: I'll vote for Clinton; first House member to cross party line

Source: The Post-Standard

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna, a three-term Republican, said Tuesday he will vote for Hillary Clinton for president because Donald Trump is "unfit to serve our party and cannot lead this country."

Hanna becomes the first Republican member of Congress to publicly declare he will vote for Clinton in November.

Other GOP members of Congress have refused to endorse Trump, but until now none had promised to vote for his Democratic opponent.

Hanna announced his decision Tuesday morning in an op-ed and interview exclusive to Syracuse.com. The retiring congressman previously said he could never support Trump, but he had stopped short of backing Clinton.

But I will credit him with showing some leadership here and for doing the right thing.

...but, of course, it is more the result of the fact that he does not need to rely on the GOP's increasingly radicalized base.

The other side of my brain says don't count your chickens before they hatch, never underestimate your enemy, etc. The gopers certainly had something up their sleeve for John Kerry.

I certainly hope we can GET OUT THE VOTE and turn this potential presidential landslide into control of the House and Senate.

As there really are worse things than losing an election. Republicans will have to live in the same dystopia as the rest of us if Trump is elected president.

In Australia, politicians voted for strict gun legislation knowing they could lose their seats in government. Many did, but had no regrets, as it was the right thing to do. That is something we rarely see here.

If he were running for re-election, he'd keep is mouth shut. I'm originally from NY. Upstate New York Republicans are about the most two faced, mealy mouthed back benchers in the world. Go F yourself, Hanna.

When you're done with your brave "endorsement," go back to Syracuse and drink enough polluted water in Onondaga Lake (that Republican supported Allied Chemical turned into a dead lake) that you will glow in the dark as if you just let Hanford! Scumbag!
