Hillary Clinton Calls GOP Convention Kickoff ‘Surreal’

LAS VEGAS — Hillary Clinton used a two-stop tour here Tuesday to skewer the chaos of the Republican National Convention’s kickoff by comparing it to “The Wizard of Oz,” but declined to address perhaps its most controversial element thus far: Melania Trump’s speech.
“Last night in Cleveland was surreal. I kept thinking: What’s this like? And then I thought, you know when I was a little girl, I went to see — when they reissued it — the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” she said to laughter from the audience at the annual convention of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
“And there were similarities that appeared to me: Lots of sound and fury, even a fog machine,” she said, referring to presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s dramatic stage entrance at the convention Monday night. “But when you pulled back the curtain, it was just Donald Trump, with nothing to offer the American people.”
She continued to attack the GOP gathering at a rally later on Tuesday at the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas. “I don’t know if any of you subject yourselves to watching the Republican convention last night,” she said to the crowd. When they booed to suggest they hadn’t, she replied: “You didn’t miss anything. They didn’t have a single idea about how to put people to work.”
