Shadowy: Ex-lobbyist Rick Gates, 44, of Richmond Virginia, is being named as the man at the center of the plagiarism

Sources inside the Donald Trump campaign and the Republican Party are pointing fingers at an aide they say is responsible for the Melania Trump plagiarism storm – a man who was the campaign chairman's lobbying partner before he came aboard the Trump train.

Rick Gates was named to DailyMail.com by several sources with knowledge of the steps that led to Melania Trump delivering a partly plagiarized speech Monday night.

Gates is a former long-time lobbying partner of Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and now faces demands that his head should roll.

The campaign has shown no sign of moving in that direction, however.

Two plugged-in Trump aides and three Republican National Convention officials confirmed that Gates, the deputy convention manager in charge of putting down a 'NeverTrump' rebellion on Monday, also had final authority to sign off on Mrs. Trump's remarks and those of many other speakers.

Gates sought to distance himself from the controversy on Tuesday, telling CNN it was 'absolutely not' true that he oversaw the proc

This is a particularly fun week to be participating on DU! Wrote this just moments after seeing the "Breaking News" alert about the speechwriter who has been identified, and released to the press his finished original that he turned in for Melania to read. It proved there was NO Michelle Obama rip-off in there when it left his hands. I'm not sure it was Gates. I didn't write the name down in time. I saw this in the crawl that runs along the bottom of the screen. My husband hollered to me rather excitedly to come see.

MAN what a second-day lead! Proves the story is NOT going away, and there may be MUCH more yet to be revealed. Like HOW did those two paragraphs get in there anyway? DID milady actually write it, as she claimed?

About halfway through the nominating process, MSNBC cut away to field reporter Hallie Jackson, who reported that the Melania Trump speech had been written by professional speech writer Matthew Scully. She reported that high level sources within the campaign had provided a draft of the speech that Scully had submitted to the campaign, and that it didn’t include any of the passages which had been plagiarized from a 2008 speech by Michelle Obama.

http://www.dailynewsbin.com/news/trumps-people-scramble-to-point-fingers-at-each-other-over-melanias-plagiarism-scandal/25280/

Matthew Scully is the guy.

This story's kinda been bigfooted by the whole parade-of-states thing and The Donald's victorious number-nailing. But this is a detail well worth remembering. We still don't know what happened between the time Scully handed in his final draft of the speech and the time Melania saw it on the teleprompter. I hope the news cycle hasn't decided to jump on a different runaway train - the Diversion Express.

As the story says - Trump himself has been awfully quiet on the Twitter scene. Usually he's all over it, with tweet after tweet after rude or accusatory or insulting or smart-ass tweet. We've heard and/or seen NOTHING on this from him.

Further, if it went through speechwriter Matthew Scully without any of the plagiarized paragraphs in it, and high-level campaign staffers, too...

"In other words, the upper echelon of the campaign staff wanted to make sure the public knew that the changes weren’t made by the guy they hired or by the staff themselves. Without saying it, the clear implication was that Melania Trump herself, or another member of the Trump family, was responsible for inserting the stolen passages into the speech at the last minute."

...and another member of the Trump family is now quietly "suspected," I'd say it's Donald himself. If it were one of his kids, he'd be issuing screaming tweets all over everywhere, defending them.

After all, isn't he the "You're Fired!" guy? He's made that as much of a signature line as Arnold Schwarzenegger did with "I'll be back." And hasn't the campaign already stated that no one's getting fired over this? WHILE the high-level staffers seem to be making sure to make proof available that they're not at fault? Kinda hard to fire the boss, especially when he's running for President...

And where is he? Hunkered down in the Trump Tower in New York. Communicating to the world, and the convention, from his "bunker" by video. He's not out yapping and flinging blame around and insults and putdowns the way he usually would. His behavior may be speaking for him this time.

If you were to check out Trump's praise of Michelle's speech back in 2008 you may be surprised. Trump thought it was just great and he said so publicly back in 08.You will have to search back in 08 to find that little number. So he thought it was the perfect way to show case Melaina. Remember now, Trump thinks he can do anything he will and not lose a vote as a result of his misdeed's. Melaina Trump's performance in the eyes of Donald Trump was nothing short of perfect as expected .

Now the question is, does she know that Donald Trump staged that knowing the media would have a number of field days with it.
Does she or doesn't she .

Bottom line- It is all Donald Trump's doings, he planed it out in every detail. And she says whatever he wants her to say-he writes the scripts or presents the concept and they write it out subject to Donald Trump's approval. A real total control freak Trump is.

Gates is in here.

Inside Trump adviser Manafort’s world of politics and global financial dealmaking

By Steven Mufson and Tom Hamburger

April 26 

Paul Manafort was hired by Donald Trump to bring the wisdom of an old Washington hand to a campaign of political novices and provide expertise on the arcane art of counting convention delegates.

But beneath the image of a campaign wise man is a more complex picture of a veteran consultant who has pursued parallel careers as a lobbyist, political adviser and global dealmaker. He has parlayed political relationships around the world into an array of intricate financial transactions with billionaire oligarchs and other controversial investors that have at times spurred legal disputes.
....

At one point, attorneys for the Russian businessman, Oleg Deripaska, claimed that they could not locate Manafort or his partner, Richard Gates. The tycoon hired a private investigator to track them down, according to a 2014 petition that Deripaska’s attorneys filed in a Cayman Islands court seeking recovery of the money. ... “It appears that Paul Manafort and Rick Gates have simply disappeared,” the petition states.
....

The relationship with Deripaska started on a positive note. ... The firm of Davis Manafort, which Manafort owned with Gates and longtime Republican strategist Richard Davis, wooed Deripaska in 2006, describing its experience in “international and domestic business, politics, government and public policy development,” according to the Cayman Islands petition filed on behalf of Deripaska.

And both Gates and Manafort were involved in shady deals in Ukraine - Manafort working closely with former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukoyvch who was anti-NATO and pro-Russian - stances which Trump himself appears to have adopted. If Gates is in on it, Manafort might be also. IMO either one or both are capable of this kind of duplicity. Lots of other stuff here on Manafort and Gates.....

When any of us say something in writing or in public, WE are held accountable for it. If someone writes a speech for me or in my name, I AM the person responsible for it.

In this case Mrs. Trump took full credit for the speech before she delivered it. She had one job to do these past five weeks, which was to write the speech she pretended to write, and if she wasn't going to do that, then she had better by God have someone double-check it.

Republicans have zeroed in on a scapegoat, but that's not nearly all of the story. My own suspicion is that the document was deliberately plagiarized and rickrolled by a subordinate who wanted to make sure he was paid for it by withholding a final draft--and likely was not, knowing the Trumps.

And beneath that is the telling and unforgivable bedrock of total incompetence, at all levels, from bottom to top. Recall that George W. Bush the candidate was a totally incompetent moron who went on to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was exactly that.

This portends the infinitely more serious disaster that awaits us if we fail to overcome these incompetent, malevolent fools.

'Lets have some fun tonight': Former prosecutor and Trump pal Chris Christie eviscerates Hillary Clinton in 'trial' before GOP convention – as the crowd screams 'GUILTY!' and 'LOCK HER UP!

The Justice Department may have taken a pass on charging Hillary Clinton, but that didn't keep Republican New Jersey governor Chris Christie from putting the Democratic nominee 'on trial' before a whipped-up crowd at the Republican convention.

Christie, a former prosecutor who destroyed Republican Marco Rubio during a New Hampshire debate, this time turned his full force of argument to Clinton, and the crowd lapped it up - and added its own chants of 'Lock her up.'

'Tonight, as a former federal prosecutor, I welcome the opportunity to hold her accountable for her performance and her character,' Christie said.

'We must present those facts to you, a jury of her peers, both in this hall and in living rooms around our nation,' Christie said.
Then, he proceeded to read through a blistering 'indictment,' where he catalogued all of Clinton's misjudgments and misdeeds.

'Hillary Clinton cared more about protecting her own secrets than she did about protecting America's secrets,' he said.

His main convention was to read out his charges, then ask the crowd: 'Guilty or not guilty?'

'Guilty!' the crowd screamed out in unison each time.

When Christie laid out the case against Clinton for her emails, it brought yet another round of 'lock her up' cheers.

'As to Hillary Clinton, putting herself ahead of America, guilty or not guilty?'

'Guilty!' yelled out the crowd.

'Hillary Clinton, lying to the American people about her selfish, awful judgment, guilty or not guilty?'

'Guilty,' yelled back the crowd.

Christie saddled Clinton with the chaos in Libya, diplomatic pushback by China, challenges by, and a rapprochement with Cuba

Melania Trump: The Story Behind the Speech She Didn’t Deliver

Six weeks ago, two of the most respected speechwriters in Republican politics were asked to write a convention address for Melania Trump ahead of her big moment in the spotlight in Cleveland.

The speech she gave Monday night -- which included passages bearing striking resemblance to Michelle Obama's 2008 convention address and raised questions of plagiarism -- was not it.

An early version of the speech crafted by GOP speechwriters Matthew Scully and John McConnell was apparently disregarded and shelved by the Trump campaign.

Scully and McConnell have previously helped craft some of the most consequential political speeches in the modern era, including those delivered by former President George W. Bush in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

Six weeks ago, they were approached by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law and campaign adviser, to write a convention speech for Melania Trump. The Slovenian-born former model has prominently appeared at her husband's side throughout the 2016 campaign, but has spoken infrequently on the trail.

The pair wrote a speech and submitted a draft to Trump's campaign over a month ago.

According to a knowledgeable source, Kushner indicated his approval of the speech draft shortly after it was submitted, but the speechwriters never heard from him again about it.

The speech delivered by Melania Trump last night included almost nothing of the draft written by Scully and McConnell.

In an interview with NBC News aboard Trump's plane Monday evening ahead of her speech, Melania Trump said she wrote her speech with "as little help as possible."

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/melania-trump-story-speech-didnt-deliver/story?id=40709983

So she robbed her speech with as little help as possible !
