Indian woman gang-raped in 2013 is attacked again 'by same men'

Source: The Guardian

An Indian student is recovering in hospital after being gang-raped by a group of men, including some charged with sexually assaulting her three years earlier, police have said.

Police in Haryana state were hunting for five men accused of abducting the 21-year-old student of the lowest Dalit social caste from outside her college before drugging and raping her in a car. She was found unconscious in bushes on the side of a highway last Wednesday night in Haryana, which borders Delhi.

How exactly does a gang rape perpetrated in India relate to Republicans in America? I'm afraid I'm not following how the one corresponds to the other. Condemning people in a political party in a different country to that in which the incident took place seems peculiar to me.

... the idea that this sort of thing is not only acceptable but should be done to women and export those ideas throughout the world. They constantly preach the patriarchy and pass the idea that it's acceptable to treat women as property (where rape and murder is acceptable and proper if the women get out of line) and attempt to convince the world that this is how it should be. Unlike us, they aren't sending out the message of equality and diversity.

It doesn't matter if they care about Rethugs or not -- cultures bleed through. The attitude that the Rethugs export infects everyone and everything worldwide, whether they are actively listening or not.

While no one's going to formulate a cogent argument that Republicans are pro-equality or pro-woman, I think you're laying it on a little thick here. If you're going to assert that Republicans are "actively promoting" the idea that gang rape is not just acceptable but recommended, kick out some sources to back up that rather extraordinary assertion. I can't recall ever hearing of a Republican saying, "If your woman gets out of line, a good old-fashioned gang-rape or murder will sort her out!"

It's one thing to oppose the nonsense that Republicans advocate. It's quite another to fabricate positions that I don't think any Republican actually holds. I've known some godawful, miserable assholes who were Republicans, but never have I met one who thinks it's perfectly okay to rape or murder women. I hate being put in a position of having to defend Republicans, but your assertion is just way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaay out there.

you have to expect that people will point that out. That's more or less the whole point of having discussions--arriving at logical conclusions.

There's plenty of terrible things that Republicans say and do; we don't have to make up stuff to load down the truck.

When you come up with a wild-eyed assertion that has no basis in fact... I'll defend the target of that assertion no matter who it is. They're bad enough without having to lie about them. Criticize them for the things they actually do and say, not for some fabricated stance I don't think any of them actually hold.

Hitler never gave a speech or a written order that said "kill all the Jews," and yet, everyone knew what he was all about and his plans were carried out. Likewise, Rethugs don't have to say "If your woman gets out of line..." It's understood by all what the message is.

The "I have no evidence to back up my assertion so I'm going to just repeat myself" tactic, with a little dash of the "I'm a mind reader and I know what they really mean" approach. It's common to see both of those trotted out when one has no evidence to back up one's assertion, but it's at least slightly novel to see them combined.

As I said, criticize the stupid shit Republicans actually do, rather than fabricating imaginary positions that no one actually holds. It just makes you look silly.

As I said before, no one can make a cogent argument that the Republicans are pro-equality or pro-woman, but that is a long way away from "Rape and murder of women are okey-dokey."

I disagree with my Republican friends, family, and colleagues when it comes to politics and other things besides, but I very much doubt that they secretly harbor the desire to commit atrocities against women, and I very much doubt that they think atrocities against women are okay.

Please don't feel sorry for me because I don't buy into your hyperbole.

If you want to go through life being suspicious of everyone who doesn't agree with your politics, then I really don't know what to say to you. Your concern is nice, though I'm really not worried that my parents will suddenly go on a rape and murder spree against women. Also not too concerned about my friends and colleagues, either. I allow for the possibility that people who disagree with my politics can also be decent human beings.

It sounds like gang activity, the way the victim's family had to move due to the harassment they recieved after prosecuting the 2013 assault. Apparently this most recent abduction/attack is the culmination of an effort to force the girl not to testify--which means it's taken 3 years to bring these culprits before a judge.
