Ivanka Trump’s Rabbi Pulls Out of Appearing at Republican Convention

CLEVELAND — Yet another prominent person Donald J. Trump hoped would appear at the Republican National Convention has rebuffed his invitation, the latest sign of disarray in the campaign’s planning of an event that starts in just three days.

Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, who heads the congregation that Mr. Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, attend, told friends and congregants in an email on Friday that he had decided to back out because his appearance had become too politically charged. Faced with a backlash after the Trump campaign released his name on a list of speakers — without specifying that he would deliver an invocation and not a speech — the rabbi said he had little choice.

“The whole matter turned from rabbinic to political, something which was never intended,” he said in the email. “In the interest of bringing our community together, I have asked to be relieved of my commitment to deliver the invocation.”

The rabbi’s withdrawal came less than 24 hours after the announcement from Tim Tebow, the onetime football star, that he also would not speak. Mr. Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winner and well-known religious conservative, was invited to appear at the convention as part of the lineup of athletes who will speak on Mr. Trump’s behalf..............................

His family left Germany shortly before Hitler took power, and would have probably perished had they not - yet he made a career of imposing such governments on others. A shame not only to Jews; but to the entire human race.

Kissinger was doing, and knowing that he was originally from Germany, I honest to God thought he was a barely rehabilitated Nazi, or that his family were all Nazis.

I was genuinely shocked to learn he's actually Jewish. Because he sure as hell behaves like a Nazi.

Plus he felt frightened and unloved as a child, I suspect, and has thus dedicated his life to imposing that on others.

I like to think we're all good inside; but that some of simply suffer from, for lack of a better term, affective afflictions.

God only knows.

Now, Rabbi Lookstein likely would have gotten a few deserved "Ewwwws" and "WTFs?" for delivering an invocation at that hellhole, but it would be mitagated by the "Oh well, he's the daughter's rabbi," aspect of it all.

That's a piss-poor attempt at an excuse. Appearing at a political convention is always political, by definition. If he'd been asked to do something for a Trump charity, I could believe he could have seen it as 'rabbinic'; but he was asked to speak at the most political event the USA has.

People are building homes, a neighborhood, for families needing homes.

I know TT gets a lot of grief here, but he seems to be a decent guy that is trying to help others. Yeah, he has a strong faith. Some people have faith in other things. As long as we aren't expected to adopt his faith, I don't have a problem with him. I liked him on ESPN's SEC channel as a commenter, and that required a change in my attitude. He was good, and treated people well.

Michele Bachmann: ‘Even My Jews Would say Merry Christmas’

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) told a conservative radio host that Donald Trump “gets and understands religious liberty,” the Huffington Post reports.

Bachmann shared an anecdote: “He even said, ‘I don’t understand, when I was growing up, everybody said Merry Christmas. Even my Jews would say Merry Christmas.’ New York City, there are a lot of Jews, and they would even say Merry Christmas. Why can’t we even say Merry Christmas anymore?’”

Bachmann added that Trump had “1950s sensibilities” and “1950s common sense,” and warned that Hillary Clinton would bring “certain destruction” and “catastrophic decline” and a “godless United States that will walk into certain catastrophe.”
