Donald Trump Reportedly Taps Mike Pence As His Vice Presidential Running Mate
Source: Huffington Post
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has settled on Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) as his vice presidential running mate, according to multiple reports including the governors local paper.
A formal announcement is expected to come on Friday in New York City. Though several outlets reported that it was a done deal, the New York Times reported that there were only strong signals that Pence was being tapped for the gig, as of Thursday afternoon. However, Trumps communication office denied that a decision has been made.
Pence, 57, brings nearly four years of executive experience to the ticket and can help shore up Trumps credibility among establishment holdouts within the GOP. The governor also seems to have met Trumps stated preference of a running mate who can ably navigate the corridors of power in Washington ― Pence previously served 12 years in the House of Representatives, including two years as chairman of the House Republican Conference.

(135,425 posts)Gov. Mike Pence is dropping his re-election bid in Indiana to become Donald Trumps running mate.
IndyStar has confirmed that Trump plans to announce Pence as his selection for vice president, ending a weeks-long vice presidential casting call during which Trump vetted a handful of high-profile Republicans.
Trump's national campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, said "a decision has not been made." A formal announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday in Manhattan.
The long-awaited decision upends the political landscape in Indiana and at least partially remakes the Trump campaign in Pences image.....

The law, which also includes a ban on abortions motivated solely by gender, race or disability, made Indianas abortion rules among the countrys most restrictive, and led to scathing critiques of Mr. Pence, who said last month that he signed the bill with a prayer.

I would certainly hate for any of my fellow Hoosier women to be at risk of penalty if they do not properly dispose of this or report it, the post says. Just to cover our bases, perhaps we should make sure to contact Governor Pences office to report our periods.

(4,113 posts)Democrats will bring up that "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" he signed into law last year that would discriminate against gays. But Pence had to walk it back and change it a week later after hearing from businesses and organizations that threatened to leave the state, cancel expansion plans or not hold conventions in Indiana if the bill is not at least modified.
I'll never understand why Gingrich was on Trump's short list for VP, given all of the baggage he carries. Maybe it's a sign of how dense Trump and the entire Republican party is.

(14,591 posts)He can't run for governor and be on the national ticket by Indiana election laws.
Since he became governor, the state has been running larger budget deficits and because he's starving education, the state is falling farther behind the rest of the country. His approval rating is 40% and his disapproval rating is 42%. He's underwater. His re-election was in doubt with polls showing the race within the margin of error.

Most cities already have economic councils that decide the best use of taxpayer monies. These councils are made up of chamber of commerce people and have more power over economics and services than elected officials.
Cronyism and payola is rampant. The state even pits one municipality against another in a race to the bottom.
