Romney Adviser Hits Back On Bain Offshoring: Obama Is Outsourcing Jobs To Nebraska!
By Igor Volsky posted from ThinkProgress Economy on Jun 24, 2012 at 11:03 am
Mitt Romneys campaign is responding to evidence that Bain Capital invested in companies that sent American jobs overseas by accusing the Obama administration of outsourcing telemarketing jobs to Omaha, Nebraska.
During an appearance on CNNs State of the Union, Romney adviser Ed Gillespie continued the campaigns dubious strategy of schooling reporters on the difference between outsourcing and offshoring jobs, insisting that a Washington Post investigation which found that Romneys company invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India misunderstood the complicated business jargon.
Gillespie said that he was not aware if companies tied to Bain shipped jobs overseas, before adding, what happened in the story as near I can tell is that the reporter confused the notion of outsourcing. Now a lot of American companies outsource, they outsource domestically, he said, noting that the Obama campaign outsources jobs to Nebraska and CNN contracts out video editing projects.

(60,335 posts)Romney doesn't even know they are part of the electorate, yet the majority in the state will support him.
An ad should be run in the Omaha World Herald reminding hem of their status.

(17,438 posts)depends on what the definition of "outsourcing" is. "Outsourcing" or "offshoring" either way, RMoney screwed the USA workers.

to believe in Romney.
But I hope they'll keep clarifying exactly what Bain is all
about and who has benefited.

(3,596 posts)Outsourcing, absent a union contract, is a decision by one company to simply have another company some service or perform some task on their behalf. Companies could just have laid employees off and outsourced that work. That is common where the task/activity is very focused and may not require full-time, permanent employees.
Obviously in an environment where there is a union, the contract should prohibit outsourcing but many companies do it anyway and it ends up in a labor dispute.
But at a minimum with outsourcing, the jobs stay in America and, in some cases, create good-paying jobs. My company outsources certain project management work and the project managers for the contractor make about 25% more than our in-house contractors.
Off-shoring is the danger where jobs that could be performed either within the company or outsourced to other American workers are done in another country. This is where Bain was the expert, the pioneers. Obama needs to hammer this home over and over again.
This is especially important among blue-collar white communities in the rustbelt. They were strong supporters of Hillary but mostly came along to Obama in 2008. Polling suggests support is weak in 2012. These facts need to be driven home to this audience. Obama did not offshore your jobs to India, China, South Korea, etc. but Mittens RMoney did (in addition to torturing his dog Seamus).

(7,403 posts)Contracting has been around for a long, long time. Offshoring is something done to avoid taxes and is done in tax havens such as the Cayman Islands or on board ships anchored in international waters. Outsourcing can be either contracting with other companies to perform the work or the moving of the plant overseas. It can even involve offshoring. The most common outsourcing is moving production overseas and companies like Apple are a prime example of that where most of their production is done in China. Automakers contract with suppliers for many of their parts. Under Gillespie's definition this would be outsourcing. This type of work has been going on much longer than the term outsourcing has been around so that means that outsourcing is a different animal than contracting. Did CNN give any pushback to this outlandish attempt to conflate contracting with outsourcing?

Well folks, looks like the GOP group of folks are headed in that direction.
We know that the GOPs don't think Hawaii is part of the US since Pres O was born there, now add Nebraska
Thats fucking sad.

"Nebraska
This is a solid Republican state that has leaned more Republican in presidential races over the last half-century than any other state but Utah. Yet Nebraska can divide electoral votes by Congressional district. Four years ago, President Obama carried the states second Congressional District Omaha and the surrounding area and collected a single electoral vote. A competitive Senate race could help drive up Democratic turnout again, but Republicans are less likely to be taken by surprise."

(1,944 posts)what he was trying to do was use the word "outsource" with the word domestic and then tie in with Obama and Nebraska. He failed.
He came across as disingenuous and stupid. But sadly as we know this will play of Fox and the foxtards will say to themselves "see outsourcing it's only like send jobs to Nebraska.
