Comey says FBI did not 'give a hoot about politics' in Clinton email probe
Comey: No political interference in email inquiry
Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) of Vermont asks FBI Director James Comey whether there was administration or campaign interference with the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.
................
Testifying before a House committee, Comey said that he and his team of FBI agents didnt give a hoot about politics in reaching their determination, which was accepted by Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch in formally closing the investigation into the presumptive Democratic presidential candidates handling of classified information.
Comey said a key reason for his conclusion was that Clinton did not knowingly send classified information despite displaying great carelessness and at times lack of sophistication.
I do not see evidence that is sufficient to establish that Secretary Clinton or those with whom she was corresponding both talked about classified information on email and knew when they did it, that they were doing something that was against the law, Comey said.

(194 posts)He reminds me of why all senior public officials, especially cabinet level and high ranking public officials, are critical to the protection of our democracy. He had an extremely difficult job to do, with presidential political ramifications hanging in the balance. The country should feel good about the FBI getting to the bottom of what happened, and that justice (which in this case means not indicting) was done.
