US has no plans to extradite Assange: Carr

Source: Radio Australia

Posted 24 June 2012, 10:40 AEST

... "When I've raised it and I think I have raised it on two occasions with US officials, I've received no hint that they've got a plan to extradite him to the US," Senator Carr said.

"There was one allegation that appeared somewhere of something called a sealed indictment. No US figure has confirmed that to us.

"What I've said to a senior US official <is that> Assange is an Australian citizen. We've got an interest in this. Have you got plans to extradite him?

"They haven't said they have plans to extradite him. They haven't been able to rule out that one corner of the American administration might not be considering it, but I would expect that the US would not want to touch this" ...

6. Have I missed a sudden epidemic of extraditions from Sweden?

I am afraid I having some trouble keeping up with St Julian's ever-shifting views on the country

In August 2010, he went to Sweden, reportedly to investigate it as a base for Wikileaks, due -- we were told then -- to its excellent whistle-blower protection laws. Shortly after arriving in Sweden, St Julian apparently had sex with several Swedish women; and soon afterwards, he applied for residency in the country. Unfortunately, however, his early Swedish romances produced police complaints, and St Julian left for the UK, his residency request rejected. St Julian's simple summary at the time was: "Sweden is the Saudi Arabia of feminism. I fell into a hornets' nest of revolutionary feminism." But since then, he has not chosen to represent Sweden as "a hornets' nest of revolutionary feminism" -- no, now he portrays it as a Gothic dungeon into which he would be thrown while awaiting ghastly torture and a horrid death at the hands of the foreign overlords who remotely control Sweden

Yes....

In 2010, a European Arrest Warrant was issued for Assange in relation to allegations of rape and sexual assault by two women in Sweden. Assange was arrested in the United Kingdom, and was freed on bail after ten days in Wandsworth prison. On 30 May 2012 Assange lost his Supreme Court appeal to avoid extradition to Sweden.[12][13] Barring any appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, extradition is expected to take place over a ten day period commencing on 28 June 2012.[14]

We know this?

A bit about Assange

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Assange

Assange was a hacker-activist in his youth, before becoming a computer programmer and then becoming internationally renowned for his work with WikiLeaks.[9] He has lived in several countries and has made public appearances in many parts of the world to speak about freedom of the press, censorship, and investigative journalism.

He has received numerous awards and nominations, including the 2009 Amnesty International Media Award, Readers' Choice for TIME magazine's 2010 Person of the Year, the 2011 Sydney Peace Foundation gold medal and the 2011 Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism.[10] Snorre Valen, a Norwegian parliamentarian, nominated him for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize.[11]

How some people call themselves 'Democrats' astounds me. Just to put it out there:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_(United_States)
The Democratic Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States along with the Republican Party. The party supports a socially liberal and progressive platform[1][2][3], and

Guess I'mmm juuuussssst naive about whuts progressive and whuts socialy liberal. I have a difficult time with people that don't have an issue with even the slightest possibility of someone being mistreated or tortured and much more so given the record being what it is and still not giving a shit. Sorry FAIL

Video description reads:
A well made high budget documentary full of information.

Wonder who paid for it? The narrator has a nice British or maybe Australian accent. It's been a while since this has made the news. Sweden is where all the documents for this, and maybe Bradley Manning's case, were left and they refused to give them to the USA, at least for a while. But they were dumped them digitally on the internet, so that may not be important now.

It was an exciting development historically. I supported Ellsberg's releasing the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam era and felt this might prove what had been done in the Bush era. Ellsberg himself supports Assange and so does Michael Moore.

They feel he is doing something important, but at times it's hard to know what to believe about this case. Some have accused Wikileaks of working to manufacture consent, although it seems far-fetched, for internet censorship by government. But that appears to be happening by corporate means seeking to scrounge more money and increase monopoly power over the internet and the users. And to stop those who are resisting the corporatist line.

At this point, I don't know what to think of the case but I wanted Wikileaks to provide a true alternative to the corporate media which is doing a lot of harm to us and the world. The truth is always a good thing, but we often attack the messenger. In the case of the media, the attack is not for the common good or saving lives, but maintaining corporate power.

If the suggestion that Wikileaks and some of the other movements we want to work to change the world are already co-opting privacy and giving more power to others, we've been scammed. This case has gone on so long, or so it seems, that it will never be resolved. Bradley Manning's trial seems to be going on forever. The stalemate between Assange and Sweden, or, as he claims, Sweden acting as a proxy for the USA or UK, seems to be going nowhere.

Best luck to Assange and all involved in this. If the danger to him is anything near what some people feel, I am sorry for him. But somehow there is something not right here, JMHO.

Will Eric Holder Succeed in Executing Julian Assange for Telling the Truth?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/Will-Eric-Holder-Succeed-i-by-Ruth-Hull-120623-787.html

By

Ruth Hull (about the author)

"On November 29, 2010, US Attorney-General Eric Holder told a Washington press conference that the Justice Department was pursuing "an active, ongoing criminal investigation" into WikiLeaks. This was the day after WikiLeaks and its media partners began releasing more than 250,000 State Department cables, showing wrongdoing by the U.S. Government.

Holder was urged to prosecute Assange under the Espionage Act of 1917 in a December 2, 2010, letter from PATRIOT Act and Iraq War proponent Dianne Feinstein (Chairwoman, U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee) and Christopher Bond (Deputy Chairman of said committee). The Espionage Act of 1917 was used to round up thousands of American patriots for their opposition to World War I in a witch hunt that was worse than the one engaged in by Joe McCarthy. Now they expected Holder to use his authority as Attorney General to create a new witch hunt aimed at suppressing international opposition to the current undeclared wars in the Middle East.

It is known that a grand jury was convened in Alexandra Virginia on or before December 22, 2010 and continuing thereafter for the purpose of prosecuting Julian Assange. Therefore, any pretense that the United States is not targeting Assange for a possible life or death sentence is a flat out lie that is disrespectful to the citizens of the United States.

Guilt or innocence has little to do with whether a person is executed in the United States. It was universally known that Troy Davis was innocent when he was executed with the acquiescence of President Barack Obama. Across America and around the world, people offered up their own lives in exchange for saving an innocent Troy Davis. Following the example of Spartacus, people everywhere took up the slogan, "I am Troy Davis." Showing that economics matters more than innocence, Obama intervened for economic reasons on behalf of a likely-guilty death row convict the day after Davis was killed.

So with truth and justice still hanging in the balance, Ecuador may be the last hope of those who do not want truth to die. People around the world are praying that President Correa will do the right thing and take a stand for truth and freedom. Interestingly, it has been pointed out that the CIA has operatives in Ecuador and it may not be the perfect place for a CIA target to hang out. Yet, it is the only country offering to stand up for freedom of the press in this instance.

Ecuador has long opposed the death penalty and could really show its opposition to the death penalty through granting Assange asylum or going further and making him a diplomat and providing him with full immunity. Either would allow Assange to continue his work in ferreting out truths that the U.S. Government would rather keep hidden. If Obama ever decides to Hussein or Gadhafi Correa, Correa's best hope for survival would be an informed public. Without safety for the Julian Assanges of the world, the U.S. is free to plunder Ecuador or other vulnerable countries at will."

I don't stand for this shit and am fed up with it myself. It is un-American and it is not Democratic.

11. The Australian definition of foreplay - Are you awake?
Sat Jun 23, 2012, 11:08 PM
Jun 2012

Apparently it varies from the Swedish definition and maybe the Swedish girls should have checked an Oz dictionary before inviting him into sexual relationships!
And he is accused of sexual what? - it is not sexual assault, it is not rape - is it misconduct? In fact he is not accused of any crime, otherwise he would have been charged - that is what charging you is.
He is wanted for questioning - that is simply answered - I do not answer any questions, charge me or fuck off.
So the whole situation is very suspect, why do they want him in Sweden, why can they not ask questions in London, why do they need the body in Sweden. It has never been answered and the Swedish, US, British and Australian authorities have never given any real indication. Has anybody ever been extradited to any country in the world to answer questions? with no charges laid? with the overpowering stench that a process abuse will take place?
Unfortunately it has taken the arrest of an Australian in Libya to show that there is consular assistance and there is consular assistance. One consular assistance is for the Australian Prime Minister to declare the person guilty as the first step the other consular assistance is for the Australian Foreign Minister to fly to area to be directly involved in negotiations.
Its a joke.

It's all fucking bullshit and all un-American. Why do we have Dems that support murder, torture and kidnapping, wtf? Why are people like these in the Dem party? It disgusts the shit out of me having to call myself a 'Democrat' alongside the swine that supports all this crap and that also call themselves Democrats. The entire dynamic of this has a stench to it.

MORAL COWARDICE IS WHY ALL THIS IS HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014154845

People NEED to Learn, to do the Right Things. SIMPLE.
Those that CHOOSE Not to do this, are Not on the Side of Justice, in ANYTHING.

They have Neither Good Morals, or Values. And They will Not HELP those of US that Do, Anyway. Pick your Friends WISELY.

I would Accept Julian Assange as a Friend Anyday. He HAS Good Morals and Values. The ENTIRE World SEES This.

So it is TRUE. The WORLD, DOES NOT LIE. It is Politicians and Dictators who Lie. I Listen to Everything, and I know what is Wrong and What is Right. If MORE People Did, it Would be a MUCH Better World than what it is NOW. I see this Everyday in Fact. It is how the World works when you do Not do what is Right. Everything is like that in the World.

ASSANGE will make NO DEALS either. He is TOO MORAL, to do that. AND He does NOT NEED TO MAKE DEALS. HE HAS MORALS, WHY SHOULD HE? WHO MAKES DEALS WITH EVIL? THE SMART MAN DOES NOT IN MY BOOK. THAT WOULD BE LIKE MAKING A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL. WE ALL KNOW HOW THAT TURNS OUT.

COMMON SENSE EVEN SAYS: WHO WOULD TRUST A PROVEN TORTURER?

ASSANGE WILL NOT, HE HAS COMMON SENSE AND GOOD JUDGEMENT.

THE QUESTIONS THAT THE WORLD IS ASKING ARE ABOUT MORALS AND VALUES TOO. THE MORALS AND VALUES OF TORTURERS.
IT IS NOT ASSANGES MORALS THE WORLD QUESTIONS...IT IS THOSE WHO HAVE NO MORAL OR VALUES THAT THE WORLD IS TRULY CONCERNED ABOUT.

PEOPLE IN AMERICA NEED TO QUESTION THIS LACK OF MORALITY AS WELL. MY QUESTION IS: WHY IS THIS FILTH A PART OF OUR GOVERNMENT? OF ANY GOVERNMENT FOR THAT MATTER? I THINK THE WORLD ASKS THIS AS WELL... I HEAR IT ASKING THIS.

WHY AREN'T MORE AMERICANS ASKING ABOUT THIS? WHAT ARE THEIR MORALS AND VALUES? ARE THEY AMERICAN ONES? OR SOMETHING ELSE? ...

ALL OF THIS IS UN-AMERICAN. PERIOD.

POLITICS DO NOT DEFINE AMERICA. MORALS AND VALUES DEFINE AMERICA.

CONSIDER THESE PEOPLES MORALS....TO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOT GOOD CITIZENS IN AMERICA BECAUSE THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS DIFFERENCE. THE FOUNDING FATHERS OF AMERICA DID UNDERSTAND THIS....AMERICANS NEED TO LEARN THIS AGAIN.

AMERICAN LEADERSHIP NEEDS TO BE BASED ON GOOD MORALS AND VALUES TOO. WE SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN LEADERSHIP IS BASED UPON ONLY POLITICS. IT IS USUALLY DISASTER THAT RESULTS IN THE END. AFTER ALL, 9-11 HAPPENED. PERIOD.

THESE PROBLEMS ARE THOSE OF THE LEADERS, THEY OWN THEM, THEY CREATED THEM AFTER ALL. NOT THE PEOPLE.

Thu Jun 28, 2012, 10:02 PM
Jun 2012

It says: "US has no plans to extradite Assange: Carr"

What Carr really said: "They haven't said they have plans to extradite him."

In other words, contrary to what the headline implies, there was no positive statement on the part of any U.S. authority that the U.S. will not extradite Assange. All we have is Carr's assertion that there is no positive statement by the U.S. that they will extradite Assange.

Senator Carr: get back to us when you have a U.S. official, with proper authority and on the record, stating positively that the U.S. will not attempt to extradite to Assange. Because the statements in this article are just pouring from the empty into the void.
