Nearly 114K Michigan families to get health insurance rebate

Nearly 114,000 Michigan families who buy their own health insurance or who have workplace coverage at small businesses will receive an average rebate of $214 no later than August 1 if their health insurer spent too much on administration and salaries, the nations top health official announced today.
A list of Michigan insurers that must pay the rebates was not immediately available.
Michigan families who buy their own individual plans will see a $205 average rebate, according to data released today by the U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in Washington, D.C.
Families insured by small businesses will get a $293 average rebate. Those insured by large businesses wont get a rebate, according to the data.

(18,402 posts)I read this morning that more than $1 billion in rebates will be paid out this summer for insurers who did not spend the 80% on health costs. However, if SCOTUS strikes first, those companies won't have to pay.

(18,652 posts)So even if I have to see a doc, I pay out of pocket and then when I get close to the deductible amt, a new year begins and the premium goes up 10%, even though I cost the company nothing.
