Sanford PD chief fired
Source: CNN
(CNN) -- Sanford, Florida, Police Chief Bill Lee, who drew criticism for his department's actions in the Trayvon Martin case, was fired Wednesday, his spokeswoman said.
Spokeswoman Sara Brady said Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte made the decision.
Lee had submitted a resignation letter in April that said he was stepping down, but city commissioners voted not to accept it.
In March, he had said he was stepping down temporarily in the wake of the public furor over the failure of the police to arrest George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who has said his shooting of Martin on February 26 was an act of self-defense.

This way he doesn't get that fat pension he was counting on.

Don't let this miserable failure of yours get you down... unless you are thinking of going for police chief in another jurisdiction.

This almost NEVER happens to any cop let alone a police chief...Cops usually just resign & just go to work for another PD.

(46,736 posts)a new private school which had just been built. Instead of a person, I got a recording which talked about a picnic where Oliver North was expected to appear as a speaker. I hung up without leaving a message. Then it occurred to me that this little private school was screening out non-hardcore Republicans.
In Florida we have a lot of ex-military. And if they're Republicans they consider Oliver North to be a hero. Look him up on the net. He probably is still on the speaker circuit.

Orange City does have Blue Springs State Park, so that's at least one positive the place has.

(46,736 posts)I tracked a corrupt County Attorney and assistant manager from Martin County to Winter Springs. And when the manager got booted out of Winter Springs he tried to get a job in Orange City. (I don't think he succeeded. Not sure) So I went to see who was there to provide him a back to leap frog into that city (because that's how good ole boys operate) and I recognized the name of a part time city attorney who helped trash my name in my community when I got too close to the truth regarding a conspiracy case.
If we had a responsive State Attorney's Office and a proactive Florida Bar Association in the nineties, things would have turned out differently.
But that's the reality in Florida. Because we have no one monitoring corrupt and/or incompetent government employees, they just keep getting recycled.

(4,552 posts)I don't know where to turn. Our local police department, Perkasie, Pa. They shot and killed an apparently handcuffed mentally ill man.
It is being reported that the man was arrested by three officers. After being arrested he lunged at one of the officers and was shot in the chest. He died on the scene. If he was arrested then he was CUFFED. Witnesses are saying he was cuffed. Why was he shot? It has been two weeks and the community is getting little on no information. The corner has ruled it a homicide. Justifiable or not is the question for the DA. No answer yet. I am hoping it was a tragic accident and the cop flinched.

(2 posts)The only news report that reported he was already arrested was phillynews.com. They were wrong. The police chief stated that he was in the process of trying to be arrested. The "witnesses" that said he was cuffed... weren't even there. It was his brother that stated this because he saw bruises on the victims wrists. No facts. The autopsy report hasn't been released yet and it is still an open investigation. Of course the cororner ruled it a homicide. It wasn't the following: accidental, suicide, natural or unknown. What else would it be classified as?

(32,723 posts)The thing that got to me the most about this whole case was the attitude of the police. They responded to the scene and treated the whole situation as if they were clearing a dead cat off of the road. Even to the point of showing the parents a picture of their dead son with an attitude of "Is this your cat?" and acting like, "Okay, good, you reported a missing cat, we found a dead cat, you say it's your cat. case closed."

(5,169 posts)I'm no expert on the story, is the police chief one of the people responsible for Zimmerman not being charged quickly?
If so, fry his career. If not, it is the law and the D.A. who would be most responsible. Of course, shit rolls downhill.
