Donald Trump amplifies racist attacks on Hispanic judge overseeing Trump University lawsuits, starts

Source: New York Daily News

Donald Trump has become obsessed with the Mexican heritage of the judge overseeing two Trump University lawsuits — and refuses to recognize his attacks on racism.

The Donald doubled down against U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel on Sunday, saying the Hispanic justice has "got bias" against him.

The presumptive GOP nominee even expanded his bigotry to other ethnicities — claiming he wouldn't get a fair trial from Muslim justices, either.

Asked on CBS's "Face the Nation" if a Muslim judge would treat Trump unfairly — since he has vowed to ban Muslims from entering America — the monster mogul said: "It's possible, yes. That would be possible, absolutely."

Though I may have missed that. It is legal to insult him as much as Trump wants as long as he doesn't cross the line into threatening violence or meeting the legal standard for slander of a public figure (which is higher than that for regular folks like us.)

BTW, having freedom for hate speech is a good thing. I like to see the bigots out in the open so we know who they are.

Making threats like pursuing lawsuits or just disparaging the judge outside of court are protected speech. In the United States, there really is no such thing as "Illegal Hate Speech". The only bans are with direct threats of violence.

I encountered narcissists professionally as a prosecutor (pedophiles, for example). They really don't think like us. Try convincing a pedophile that the ten year old isn't really leading him on.... it doesn't work. Trump had (and still has) other ways to get out- he can easily say that the Republicans reneged on heir promises to "be fair". The fact that he isn't doing so leads me to think that his narcissism totally prevents him from rationally considering what he is doing. IMHO, that is a much scarier alternative.

Because that would not only leave the GOP in limbo, if he finally made it impossible to run, (maybe at some point saying slavery is a good thing, or that women should not be able to vote, or some such too-far comment) but would be an interesting experiment as to how low the other top GOP brass will have sullied themselves with Trump endorsements, with the accumulation of each new over-the-top Trump rant. Like the classic Beatles movie The Magic Christian - to watch them jump into a turd filled pool to get a piece of the Trump pie, only to watch it get drained and they are standing there soaking wet with shit all over them. That even if they did turf him, (or he got himself turfed) there is not too many candidates left that the Democrats could not accuse of just last month or week, of singing Donald's praises. Maybe Mitt would run again? The popcorn smilies would be getting a lot of use on DU.

I think you may have been right at first. I can see how Trump could have at first entered for pure publicity. But he soon learned how malleable many on the right are, and how he could use his used-car salesman hoodwinking skills and inflammatory rhetoric with his celebrity status to get free airtime. And as one by one the field got smaller, he realized he could actually win this thing.

And even if he originally was not thinking he would ever win, now that he has a shot, I don't think Donald Trump would ever NOT grasp at the opportunity to be Boss #1 of the USA. No way he drops out now. He knows he has tapped into an anger that is fed by hate radio and TV where there is no trust at all anymore for Washington politicians, even traditional Republicans, and the more unstatesmanlike he is, the more it proves he is not one of those.

Donald Trump's public statements about Judge Curiel leave me scratching my head trying to understand his plan. Only two things occur to me: 1) Mr. Trump has no self-control and just says anything that pops into his head, or 2) he's trying to goad the judge into making a public statement condemning Mr. Trump thereby causing a mistrial or at least removal of the judge from the case.

The first idea seems most likely to me. Mr. Trump has lived in an insulated bubble for so long and coupled with his lack of self-awareness, he's so used to getting his way that it never occurs to him that his actions will have consequences.

This judge has demonstrated strong character and respect for the rule of law. In order for the second idea to work, Mr. Trump has to have a long game plan which is something he hasn't exhibited in his campaign. Additionally, it seems unlikely that Judge Curiel could be suckered into such a plan.

Actually, winstars, I agree with you that he's a nut job. I do wonder what will happen in the Trump University lawsuit. It would be awesome if he loses the suit. His golf course in Miami just lost a major tournament because no major corporation would sponsor the event in association with Mr. Trump. The best part is that the tournament will be played in Mexico, instead! Then, Mr. Trump loses the election and has a complete psychotic break on live TV.

Trump is winging it. He had no plan other than to get lots of free publicity for the Trump name, hence Trump brand.

Based on observable evidence and behavior as well as an insider report, it went something like this: Trump has always wanted to be President. But now at his age he gave it a run thinking it is win-win; that he could get lots of publicity and might even win. But the latter was always a long shot.

We also see him begging for money from large donors and the RNC whereas before he and his supporters trumpeted that he would never do so.

So, Hair ConDon DrumpFührer has no real plan.

Your Option 1 is, IMHO, most accurate.

It is easy to imagine that Trump is some uber-genius with a sophisticated plan to troll the GOP. But, put simply, he's not that bright, and he would have to be one of the most fantastic actors of all time in order to pull this off.

The simple explanation is the likely one - he really is the person he presents himself to be.

I really wonder if Trump got into this as sort of a lark. Is it possible that he is not controlling himself at all because he wants to find an out that doesn't involve him quitting like a loser? Perhaps as a narcissist, he wants the temporary idolization from his sycophants then pulls something to get back to what he likes to--amass wealth as business person. I don't know who he would trust to run his businesses since he is supposedly so hands on. You can't be President and have your finger in so many personal pies. I don't know what actions from the outside would forcibly make a nominee quit and allow them to place the blame on them instead of himself for leaving. Or is this an impossibility?

Not with Republicans because they vote Republican and because they still hate Hillary more. Not with us because we figured out he is an ass a very long time ago. I can't address your reference to the first amendment as that has nothing to do with my question. Perhaps you were replying to another post. In any case, Trump could be subject to sanction for indirect criminal contempt of court.

Comments that are rude, insulting or disrespectful made by a party to litigation about a presiding judge, either in or out of court, are subject to censure as constituting contempt of court.
