(582 posts)decent-paying jobs or whether they're shit jobs that you can work two of them and still not be able to live on it. I suspect it's probably more of the latter. Because you keep reading about "this many thousand jobs added" and "X-thousand new jobs!" year after year and still nobody has any f***ing money.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. businesses added 173,000 jobs last month, lifted by strong gains in services industries, according to a private survey. ... Payroll processor ADP said Thursday that construction firms also hired more workers, while manufacturers shed jobs. Large job gains occurred in retail, shipping, and utilities companies, as well as in professional services such as accounting and engineering.
The figures nearly matched a gain of 166,000 in April. That suggests hiring has slowed a bit from an average of about 210,000 a month over the previous six months, according to ADP. Still, last month's job gains, if sustained, are enough to lower the unemployment rate over time.
"Broadly speaking, the ADP data look consistent with our view that the trend in payroll growth is moderating, but not weakening substantially," David Silver, an economist at JPMorgan Chase, said in a research note.

The ADP survey wasn't affected by the Verizon workers' strike, which caused about 35,000 people to drop off payrolls for most of May. Economists forecast that will lower the government's jobs tally on Friday.

Nobody ever seems to consider this....

Apparently only jobs standing on a production line count as good jobs. Engineers and accountants and utillities staff are McJobs

When I tell people that universal health care will create tons of health care jobs, Republicans always tell me those jobs require too much education and take too long and we need faster jobs (fast like fast food?)

(57,465 posts)Tightening U.S. labor market boosts economic growth outlook
WASHINGTON | By Lucia Mutikani
U.S. private employers increased hiring in May and new applications for jobless benefits fell last week, further boosting the economic outlook for the second quarter.
Another report on Thursday showed planned layoffs by U.S.-based employers fell 53 percent to a five-month low last month.
The steady stream of upbeat data suggest the economy is regaining momentum after growth slowed sharply at the start of the year, which could allow the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates later this month or in July.

The ADP National Employment Report showed private payrolls increased 173,000 last month on top of the 166,000 jobs added in April. Gains in private employment were nearly broad-based last month, though manufacturing lost 3,000 jobs. ... The construction industry added 13,000 jobs and services industry employment increased by 175,000 jobs.
I'm looking for that other "report on Thursday."
