This is happening in the Memorial & Wilcrest area, east of Beltway 8. Shooter is said to be shirtless, wearing black shorts and armed with a rifle. There may be 2 shooters.
UPDATE: 2 suspects, one dead, one wounded plus one civilian killed. There is also black smoke coming from a building in the area. It's not yet known if it's related to the shooting incident.

(10,136 posts)What does that have to do with this story?

(6,498 posts)And if somebody did see him with his gun, did they call 911?
Or did they just pass it pass it off as Texas Normal?

(1,536 posts)shouldn't a 'good guy' with a gun put a stop to it?

(12,194 posts)Presumably, good guys with guns did put a stop to it.
You do realize that when there is a bad guy shooting people, the default response in every last locale in America (not just Texas), is to send good guys with guns to stop it, right?
Shadowflash
(1,536 posts)Sigh. Yes the cops are the good guys.
If you think that's who the NRA is referring to when they make their little bumper sticker screed, I really don't know how to carry on this conversation. I'm sorry. I'm out.

(12,194 posts)I don't think it matters who the nra was referring to, except to people who see the only 'good guy with a gun' as cops.

(29,414 posts)Memorial Drive is a major thoroughfare through Houston, starting in the downtown area as a kind of parkway and turning into a four-lane divided boulevard snaking its way through many neighborhoods, most of which are where many of Houston's most affluent families live.

Swat team kill one suspect while another man is left critically injured
Civilian fatally shot in car and three others injured

At least one man armed with a high-powered rifle went on a shooting rampage through a suburban Houston neighbourhood on Sunday, police said, resulting in two deaths and multiple injuries.
Violence erupted at about 10.15am at an auto repair shop, police said. The incident was not declared over for more than two hours as police combed the area, searching for the suspect or suspects, who appeared to be shooting at officers and random civilians, and even a helicopter.
One suspect was killed by a Swat team member. Another man, potentially a suspect, was shot and taken to hospital but is expected to live, police said.
Police spokesman John Cannon said that the dead man is believed to be a customer in his fifties. The suspect just came out unprovoked and fatally shot him for no apparent reason, he said. Cannon said that the main suspect was armed with a pistol, which he used to kill the man in the vehicle, and the rifle that he used to shoot at police.
The spokesman said the active shooter incident lasted about an hour but police continued to search the area in response to unfounded reports of a third gunman.

(101,361 posts)and thought the economy and the world were about to end. And thought the man he killed was the devil:
Garza's father says his son believed the US was on the brink of collapsing and had recently moved from California to Texas to meet people who shared his anti-government beliefs. "He was trying to get us all to go over there and, you know, go live in a compound," the father says.
...
Paris Nichols tells the Houston Chronicle that when Garza shot Linscomb in the head at the car wash he owns, he thought he would be next, and that his wifewho had been talking to Linscombfell to the ground reciting the Lord's Prayer. He says Garza said Linscomb was the devil and told him, "I'm not going to kill y'all, y'all are Christians." Nichols says Garza then went to his car to grab an AR-15 assault rifle, declaring that the world was coming to an end and shouting about Jews, gays, and Walmart.
...
Garza's father says he last spoke to him on Saturday, the day before the shooting. "He was rambling off about the economy collapsing, you know," he says. "And that something was going to happen by Monday, that kind of stuff. Of course you look back now and there were signs."
KPRC has identified a Twitter account believed to be Garza's. In it, he praises Donald Trump, insults Paul Ryan and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, and talks about the dollar collapsing.
