(Update) Trump: 'I'd love to debate Bernie’ to raise $10M for charity

Id love to debate Bernie. Hes a dream, Trump told reporters in Bismarck, N.D.
So what we can do, if we can raise for maybe womens health issues or something if we can raise 10 or 15 million dollars for charity, which would be a very appropriate amount. I understand the television business very well.
A debate between Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, and Sanders, a Democratic presidential candidate, while the primaries are still ongoing would be unprecedented.

Via Twitter 2:34pm Thursday from Reuters too:
Trump says he would love to debate Sanders if they can raise $10 million or $15 million for charity.

(10,597 posts)... that would not have entered my mind. To answer your question, Hillary's name would probably have never been mentioned. But don't worry yourself too much, cause I doubt the debate between Bernie and Trump (before the Dem Primary concludes) is going to happen. Seems Trump was just jesting last night. Relax, will ya?

(8,965 posts)Condi was SOS during 9/11, a key member of a team that failed to coordinate intelligence that might have thwarted the attack. The footage of her admitting this failure during a Congressional hearing is damning. And how many "Benghazi" type attacks on embassies and consulate happened on her / GWB's watch, still waiting to be investigated by Congress? All we need to see are her emails.

Also, it would be difficult for Trumpler to run with a female

(14,779 posts)The evidence is weak, for Rice keeps her relationship secret but she owns her home with another woman:

Now, that Condi Rice is gay has NEVER been confirmed but as J Edgar Hoover said (paraphrase from memory) "Homosexuality is the hardest thing to prove to disprove"
Hoover seems to love going after Gays, even through it appears he himself was gay, but like a lot of Gays, Hoover appears to have left no trace of any REAL EVIDENCE of his sexual tendency, the same can be said of Condi Rice.

It wouldn't be much of a debate.

(19,969 posts)down to his last $6m, he needs cheap free publicity. Strip away your bias for a second, it makes sense for him to jump at the chance. However, it is clear the Trump campaign set this up on the Kimmel show but there's nothing in this for Trump.

(49,033 posts)Are you a Hillary supporter? A Trump supporter?
I am sorry to have to ask you this because I am by nature welcoming of new members, and I would prefer to welcome you, but events make me pause:
What is this doubt you have and what are you outside of, Ms/Mr OnDoutside? Who's side are you really on? Are you here to sew discord? I can't see your posting history, but the 5 posts I see in this thread (of 18 total you have made in a few days) would fit right in on pro-Trump sites. I could only find four other posts of yours by search and none of them state any position that is clearly and unmistakably Democratic.
Bias? I have a very reasoned "bias" against Trump which is not derived from a knee jerk, but from mounds of evidence. So it is not a bias in the basic sense of the word. What is your bias?
After you have answered, please don't ever try to put words in a member's mouth. Doing so is not debating, it is an underhanded attack. I support both Hillary and Bernie. You can't objectively find a bias against one or the other in my posting record on DU.
Finally, your post is not logical. It states "the Trump campaign set this up {...} but there's nothing in this for Trump".
OnDoutside
(19,969 posts)Firstly, I absolutely want the Democratic Party to win the Presidency. I also detest Trump, a con artist. 8 years ago, I wanted Hillary to win but when the numbers were against her, I wanted her to step back because it was the best for the Democratic Party's chances in the General.
What Bernie is doing now is little short of outrageous and is hurting the Dems every day he stays in and it defies logic to potentially throw away the gains he is about to make in the party.
Try On D outside
EVERYONE has bias, whether they admit it or not.
"Trump campaign" that was a typo in my haste to get the post in. It was of course the "Sanders Campaign".

(19,089 posts)Bernie ended a monthly period with 6 million ... That was three weeks ago ....
His coffers are now burgeoning with cash, thanks to his millions of supporters, always ready to chip in ...
The Brockpuppet thing is ridiculous ... A low point in in U.S. political history, to be sure ... We can all spot you from a mile away ...
But, hey, you're gone now, right ?
Yep ... Enjoy your filthy lucre ...

(14,691 posts)was it for real? I am suspicious because I wasn't getting the Campaign fundraising emails in the same frequency as I for the last six months. I'd expect that if Bernie were that low in cash there would be emergency fundraising emails. Instead, NOTHING. Makes me wonder if it was all made up by the other side.

(17,390 posts)They are charging $10 million for the debate. The fact that they subsequently arrange for the money to be donated to a charity of their choice might allow them to claim some of the money as a deduction, but the fact remains is that they are selling the rights to their debate like a boxing match.

(20,210 posts)I wonder how much Trump actually gives. And if it's to his own foundation(s) I wonder how much they give. Maybe that's one of the reasons he won't release his tax returns.
That being said, I think Bernie's idea of having it in a huge stadium is terrible. Too much time would be wasted on the cheering/jeering crowd. If they do it, and I hope they do, they should do it like other debates.
JudyM
(29,265 posts)he has likely thought it all through.
*Part of me wonders if he is planning to approach this as entertainment, knowing tRump would go along with that. Bernie has a good sense of humor and they could play off each other well if they parried back and forth... and Bernie would always get the last, winning point in because he's far more knowledgeable and strategic.*
