"All of this work costs money"
President Obama blasted Congress for failing to provide more funding to combat the Zika virus, telling members to send a bill to his desk that has sufficient funds to fight disease.
Congress needs to get me a bill. It needs to get me a bill that has sufficient funds to do the job, President Obama said Friday, shortly after the CDC reported that 279 pregnant women in the U.S. and its territories have contracted the virus. To the extent that were not handling this thing on the front end, were going to have bigger problems on the back end.
Obama previously requested $1.9 billion to fight the virus earlier this year, when scientists first began to make the link between the virus and microcephaly, an abnormally small head in babies. Zika funding bills passed both the House and the Senate this week, though neither met the Presidents desired level of funding. (15,805 posts)So what do they do? They go on Memorial Day vacations before passing the funding to combat a serious public health crisis. Given the fact that its an election year and many GOP incumbents are facing primary challenges, so they look good back home if they oppose a spending bill of any kind... especially one that helps brown people.

(9 posts)I'm pretty tired of this, when the jackass R's in Congress obstruct things, Obama calls out Congress and that's what the American people hear. Hey Barack, grow a pair, tell Trump's "less informed people" that it is the REPUBLICANS in Congress who are blocking progress; let them know that the Democrats are standing up.
Every F'ing time he says "congress" is the problem, it allows Faux news to spin it for those ignorant republican voters who can then say it was the Democrats who blocked the legislation.
