CDC Reports 279 Pregnant Women With Zika in U.S.

Source: NBC News

More than 270 pregnant women in the U.S. are infected with the Zika virus and worry about whether their babies will be born with birth defects, federal health officials announced Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated the way it reports Zika-affected pregnancies, and said the new numbers show 279 women who tested positive for the virus. This includes 157 women in the 50 states and Washington, D.C, plus 122 in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and other U.S. territories.

So far, fewer than a dozen have had an "adverse event," such as a miscarriage or evidence that the fetus has a birth defect, CDC officials said.

"These new numbers reflect a broader group of pregnant women — pregnant women who have any laboratory evidence of possible Zika virus infection, and whether or not they recalled symptoms — compared with numbers previously reported," the CDC said in a statement.

Had to go to the ER a few times recently and the main question was "Have you traveled out of the United States in the past 18 months?".

They also asked whether you were planning to travel out of the USA in the next 18 mos. and if so, where are you planning to go.

They asked me that question. Then they asked if I had syphilis.

Then they tested and told me I didn't have Lyme Disease.

Subsequent diagnosis confirmed Lyme Disease.

Doctors are a big con game.

I won't argue that point. Hell, I don't even have a doctor. I have a "nurse" now that is costing $1500.00 a month.

They didn't ask me about the rash I have luckily.

But I agree, people shouldn't be forced to accept these situations. We all know our own limits.

Even if we have to wait four years for the next olympics, this year's olympics need to be cancelled. There are already nearly 300 women with this disease in the United States and its territories. That number could swell not only in the United States, but around the world. National pride is not worth a national or international health crisis.
