‘Debris from’ missing EgyptAir flight found in Mediterranean
Source: France24
The Egyptian army said Friday that debris from the missing EgyptAir flight had been recovered from the Mediterranean. Flight MS804 was en route to Cairo from Paris when it vanished from radar early Thursday with 66 people on board.
The Egyptian army announced Friday that it had located plane debris and passengers' personal belongings some 190 miles (306 kilometres) north of the city of Alexandria in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Airbus A320 plane was flying from Paris to Cairo when it disappeared early Thursday over the sea. The 66 passengers and crew on board included 30 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis and one passenger each from the United Kingdom, Belgium, Chad, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Portugal, Algeria, Canada and Kuwait.
Egyptian airport officials say that investigators will inspect the plane debris and personal belongings that the Egyptian army says it found. They added that the chief Egyptian investigator Ayman el-Mokadam will be joined by French and British investigators as well as an expert from Airbus.

who I'm sure couldn't help themselves from hoping. At least now we can get some answers. Something happened at 37,000 feet - whether a bomb or some catastrophic failure of the plane.

Instead, he said, "sabotage is possible, and if there were lax controls at airports and loose hiring and security policies, increasingly likely".
At any rate, knowing the general area where the plane went down they should be able to locate the data recorders before the batteries run out. I'm not sure of the depth there, though, nor the recovery capability if it is quite deep.

"I think the assumption is that this is a shallow water area but it's not, this part of the Mediterranean is really quite deep," he said.
"We only have limited information about the crash location, but if it is where this debris has been found then it sits on a boundary where the ocean floor is more like the Alps, very rugged and contoured.
"That area borders a large, deep plain about 3km down."
Dr Boxall said an aircraft such as the A320 could easily "slip through the cracks" of the ocean floor in the area.
