Security Guard Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Transgender Woman Trying to Use Women's Bathroom

Source: ABC

A security guard at a Giant Food grocery store in Washington, D.C., has been charged with simple assault for allegedly pushing a transgender woman out of the store after trying to use the women's restroom, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident happened around noon on Wednesday when Ebony Belcher -- who identified herself as a trans woman to ABC affiliate WJLA -- went to use the women's bathroom at a Giant grocery store in the city, according to a statement by Metropolitan Police Officer Tisha Grant filed with the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.

You see how ridiculous this whole 'bathroom' thing has become. I also read where a 'real' natural woman was thrown out of a bathroom because she looked like a guy...you know, short hair, no make-up, pants (not dresses) flat shoes (no hi-heels). This is so ugly and it shows how easily people can be duped into inappropriate actions, by jumping to conclusions, solely based on appearance and fueled by their own fears.
Another incident happened because this lady had a bald head...turns out she was going through chemo and had lost her hair. She had lost weight and her clothes were a bit baggy, and she was accosted by a security guard.
Seriously, people, you have got to get a grip and screw your heads back on.

In this case, the panic has been manufactured by Republicans to excite their base during an election year.

The North Carolina case is particularly bad because it obscures a lot of other bad law in the legislation. Other people's rights have been interfered with, not just the rights of men and women who use restrooms and LGBTQ who use restrooms. Oh, wait, that includes every person. But to the point, things like rights of cities to set their own minimum wages have been interfered with.

Conservatives are using a right that they deny as a basis for this manufactured panic: The Right to Privacy. Scalia denied it existed because it was claimed by Pro-Choice litigants to defend women. Now a conservative group is using that right as the basis for a lawsuit against Obama's directive to schools nationwide.

Republicans and conservatives are all for rights of smaller entities over larger ("states' rights", local school boards, etc.), small government, and getting government out of lives, except when frequently convenient to other conservative causes: war on some drugs, segregation, sodomy laws, and now the restroom moral panic.

I have not heard of anybody being arrested, let alone convicted, of using the "wrong" restroom since the NC restroom bill.

But there have been several arrests of people for harassing and assaulting restroom users.

Laws were quite adequate in the past to convict "peeping toms".

Manufactured moral panic.

"Self-appointed genital checker." Pays nothing, but the fringe benefits include secure room and board.

This is a gentrifying neighborhood in transition economically, racially, and so on. Some of the folks living in this area for decades do have a violent hatred for LGBT folks and hipsters among other things that have been changing.

Some folks want to blame someone for problems and tensions can get high over seemingly simple things. Or they are just homophobic bigots.
