Nebraska A.G. office will do 'everything in its power' to resist new transgender bathroom guidelines

LINCOLN — Top Nebraska officials are pushing back against new federal guidelines about restroom use by transgender students.

Attorney General Doug Peterson sent a letter to federal officials on Tuesday objecting to the guidelines and promising that his office would do “everything in its power” to resist them.

The letter went out days after Gov. Pete Ricketts urged local school boards and the State Board of Education to reject the federal guidance.

Ricketts said he does not have the power as governor to set policy for schools. But he said that as a parent, he would worry if his children were using a restroom with a student of the opposite sex.

1. Other than political posturing, how do any of these

ignorant bigots expect to enforce their discriminatory laws? So far, we've had women w/ short hair being harassed for using the lady's room and another anecdote of a person peeking thru the door. It's so depressing to me that so much of the public is too stupid to realize they are being distracted from real issues.

In the lawmakers' minds being overturned is a political bonus because it lets them invoke the "overreaching activist judges" meme.
