Iran Arrests Fashion Models In Social Media Crackdown

Source: Huffington Post

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran has launched a new crackdown on social media, arresting fashion models active on photo-sharing websites and a blog website manager after Tehran’s top leader declared war on un-Islamic thoughts on the Internet.

Eight members of a modeling network were arrested and accused of publishing photos of women without the obligatory hijab headscarf on the picture-sharing application Instagram, Tasnim news agency said on Sunday.

State television also broadcast live “confessions” of a model who explained she posted photos of herself on Instagram wearing certain clothes or beauty products to earn money through advertisements.

It will be interesting to see the form the next revolution takes, but I suspect it will also be quite anxiety-provoking.

In Iran, women can at least drive and comprise a pretty large percentage of university student body.

I'll let you melt your head with this as well ^^^

And if you want some more:

Pakistan - where gang rape is still acceptable punishment around the country

Mali - top partner in Africa in the GWOT even though it had forced female genital mutilation and endless forced child marriages

Yemen - often listed as the worst place for women - with limited access to education and the economy. Sort of a very poor Saudi Arabia.

Peru - the US considers Peru to be a strong ally in South America but something like 7/10 women there suffer from domestic violence and education for women is rare.

Want more? Cause I could easily go on.

It'd be a lot better place -- perhaps a model of Democracy for other nations.

Thanks to the USA and Big Oil, though, it's fixed as a theocratic republic managed by people tired of Big Oil and the USA calling the life and death shots.

Other than that, though, yeah. The models shouldn't have been arrested, IMFO.
