WASHINGTON (AP) The House Benghazi committee's Republican chairman is ignoring statements by his own former lawyer indicating that the U.S. military acted properly on the night of the deadly Sept. 11, 2012, attacks in Libya, the panel's Democrats said.
Reps. Elijah Cummings and Adam Smith said Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., omitted the lawyer's comments when he fired back at the Defense Department for criticizing the GOP-led investigation into the attacks that killed four Americans.
Gowdy's actions, coupled with delays that have pushed the 2-year-old inquiry into the heat of the 2016 presidential race, "have damaged the credibility of the Select Committee beyond repair," Cummings and Smith wrote Sunday in a letter to Gowdy.
. . .
Cummings of Maryland is the senior Democrat on the Benghazi panel; Smith, of Washington state, is the senior Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee. He also serves on the select Benghazi panel.

(7,901 posts)It is neither the first nor the last time GOP committee leaders ignored the inconvenient facts presented in testimony and written record. Like the Whitewater investigation it is intended to provide GOP political advertising at taxpayer expense.
The false narrative of the committee feeds the faux news addicts fixes that "prove" Clinton and Obama both are made of lies and that you cannot trust big government. It's ironic that the same GOP war hawks could not cheer loud enough the bombing attacks on Libya which led to the Benghazi events. The same dime store diplomats have encouraged more adventurous involvement there and in Syria, up to and including invasion: Anything for a laugh as long as the public is paying and the MSM is playing along.

(1,968 posts)Not necessarily on Benghazi, but some of them are acting the same way when it come to speech transcripts.
Regarding the transcripts, one poster names 'onecaliberal' said... "When 67% think she's a liar, yeah I'd say it is." This was regarding the release of transcripts being paramount.

And just enough democrats listened to the GOP and a few years later we couldn't pull off a convincing 2000 election victory
and we had this.

Swiftboating = Kerry had a bronze star, a silver star, three purple hearts,
and didn't lose one person in some of the most hazdous duty in the war
so Rove and the right wing went after Kerry on his record in Vietnam.
HRC sent lots of emails doing her job as Sec. of State so the right wing
goes after HRC for her doing her job.
"They" have no shame.

Lie as big as day and just keep repeating that lie and you can create your own new reality.
i.e. "bush kept us safe"
And they could not do that if we really had an honest media.
