"I'm not stupid, Okay" - Trump tells British PM Cameron
Source: Jerusalem Post
Presumptive US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said he hopes to be able to work with British Prime Minister David Cameron in spite of Cameron calling the Republican candidate 'stupid, divisive and wrong' on his stance on Muslims.
"It looks like we're not going to have a very good relationship. Who knows! I hope to have a good relationship with him but it sounds like he's not willing to address the problem either," Trump said in an interview with Piers Morgan, recorded on Friday and due to be aired in full on ITV on Monday.
"Well, number one I'm not stupid, Okay. I can tell you that, right now - just the opposite. Number two, in terms of divisive: I don't think I'm a divisive person. I'm a unifier, unlike our president now (referring to President Barack Obama), I'm a unifier," he added.

(7,820 posts)He's a lot of things- egomaniacal, narcissistic, hateful, racist, misogynistic. Petty, spiteful. Thin skinned. A con man. His supporters are certainly stupid. But I'm not at all convinced that he is. I think it may be him playing to an audience. I may be wrong on this, and not sure it totally matters, but I think dismissing him as stupid may be a mistake.

I agree that he's effective at pandering to his stupid followers, and I don't mean to minimize the risk of underestimating him, but I do think that his willingness to say mind-boggling stupid things, although his greatest appeal to his base, will prove to be his greatest weakness in the general.

It tells him that he doesn't have to even be brought up to speed on issues because he is so damn smart and successful that he already knows all the answers without even trying. Also he's smart enough to know that the ones that will vote for him don't give a rat's ass on how well informed he is, they just want him to push fascist talking points to make themselves feel more important.

If he were intelligent he wouldn't have had to declare bankruptcy four times.
If he were wise he wouldn't have two failed marriages on his hands and working on a third.
He's clever about TV, which is why he knows he can shift and dodge and say his promises and positions are only "suggestions" and his base will eat it up and love him. He knows that much.
Trump is not acting. What you see is what you get. He's on record in multiple ways and venues, public and private, that show that the short-fingered vulgarian only has one 'act'. Hair DrumpFührer is a one-trick pony.

Underestimating Trump is very dangerous. He knows how to play the media like a virtuoso plays a Stradivarius. He is a perfect product of his environment, like Putin or Hitler )although the closer analog would be Mussolini), superbly adapted to what is going on around him. He laughs off , and is stronger after, verbal or reportorial hits that would have had Romney or McCain convulsing on the ground like a baby beaten with a baseball bat.
He is a VERY bright man able to convince legions of idiots to do his bidding. Anything *BUT* 'stupid'.

His mind is so powerful that he can make true anything he THINKS is true, JUST by THINKING it's true! At least he THINKS he can. E.g., he THINKS Muslims are evil and Mexican immigrants are rapists and Obama is Kenyan; voila!--Muslims are evil, Mexicans are rapists, and Obama is Kenyan! See? It's almost like magic! And he does it all by just twisting it around in his brain, entirely with his phenomenal mental capacity! NO ONE has ever had his mental powers! He himself gives an example:

(86 posts)Regardless of his intellectual capacities, which do not impress me at all. He has no understanding of the job. He seems to believe that the job of POTUS is the same as CEO of a corporation. It is not. POTUS cannot just do whatever he or she chooses to do. The job is limited by the powers granted by the Constitution. The President must govern with Congress and the Supreme Court.
Much of President Obama's agenda was thwarted by Congress. Just imagine where our country would be if he could have just given an order and followed his dreams for us.
The Donald seems to believe he can just order something, like a wall between the US and Mexico and it will happen. He thinks he can toss people out of the country at his command. The man is delusional. Someone has to show him a job description and give him a copy of the Constitution. We have already had at least one certifiably mentally ill, delusional president (Nixon). We do not need another. We need a highly intelligent president.
I want a president who is at least as intelligent as I am. I have a Ph.D. So I think I qualify as intelligent.
I want a president who is not only highly intelligent, but also sophisticated, diplomatic, gracious, a problem solver, and capable of critical thinking. And those are just the basic qualifications. I do not want a president who is a thin skinned, loud mouthed bully, who will offend every leader in the world and flush the country down the loo.
3catwoman3
(24,007 posts)...that I think his ego would relish the title of POTUS, but there is no way he really wants the job of POTUS. As you noted above, he thinks he can just toss out commands, and his minions will make it happen. He thinks he is running for king or feudal lord.
He has absolutely no idea how restricted his daily life would be, No more doing what you want whenever you want. Pretty much every moment of a president's day, and probably most nights, is accounted for and scheduled. The Secret Service probably logs how many times a day the president goes to the bathroom.
He would be ready for a meltdown within a week.

(3,860 posts)Downing Street has said David Cameron stands by his criticism of Donald Trump but will work with whoever is elected US president.
The UK PM has called the Republican hopeful "stupid, divisive and wrong" over his call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the US.
***
David Cameron's official spokesman was asked about Mr Trump's suggestion that they might not have a good relationship following the Republican candidate's latest comments.
"The prime minister has made his views on Donald Trump's comments very clear. He disagrees with them and I haven't got anything further to add," said the spokesman.
"He continues to believe that preventing Muslims from entering the US is divisive, stupid and wrong."
***
Mr Trump also criticised what he called the "very rude statements" made about him by Sadiq Khan, after Mr Trump suggested he would make an "exception" to the ban for the London mayor.
Mr Khan, the first directly-elected Muslim mayor of a major Western capital city, dismissed Mr Trump's offer and accused the US presidential hopeful of holding "ignorant" views of Islam which "could make both our countries less safe" by playing into the hands of extremists.
Responding, Mr Trump told ITV: "I am offended, he doesn't know me.
"I think they were very rude statements and, frankly, tell him I will remember those statements," he added.
Mr Trump also challenged Mr Khan to an IQ test.
