Little Rock Settles Lawsuit Over 2010 Police Shooting

Source: Associated Press

Little Rock agreed Friday to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of 67-year-old black man who was fatally shot in 2010 after two off-duty, white police officers entered his apartment without a warrant.

City Attorney Tom Carpenter told The Associated Press that the city agreed to settled the case, which was scheduled to go to trial on Monday.

Eugene Ellison died Dec. 9, 2010. His family — including a son who is currently a Little Rock police officer — alleges that Officer Donna Lesher and Detective Tabitha McCrillis unlawfully entered his home while they were working as private security guards. The suit alleged that Lesher improperly used deadly force following an argument and scuffle.

Prosecutors declined to press charges, saying the officers' attempts to use non-lethal means to subdue Ellison had failed.

Police departments across America are failing to corral their violent and racist officers, and because of this they're being sued. The settlements from the lawsuits they lose should come out of the police departments' budgets. THAT will force departments that want a full paycheck to get rid of the most corrosive officers and keep the ones that understand it is "Protect and Serve", and not "Open season on minorities".
