4:13 p.m. update:
The tornado warning that the National Weather Service issued for the Omaha area was canceled at 4 p.m.
Michael Smith, general manager of Noodles & Co. near 132nd Street and West Dodge Road, said he and close to 10 employees and customers took shelter in the cooler.
He said he saw "a rotation" above the nearby Hy-Vee grocery store but wasn't sure it was a tornado. He saw "swirling clouds and a lot of lightning," he said.
People were not really frightened, he said, but a couple of children were somewhat shaken.

It is pouring rain, hail, and high wind here at our house. Update that we have had an inch of rain in 1/2 hour. Talk about loud thunder.

(51,076 posts)I have to admit my wife and I slept through the whole thing though. My rain gauge had one inch of rain in it this morning. I woke to take a pee about one so I checked the weather radar and it was mostly out of here by then. I only have one ear and if it is on the pillow I don't hear shit. My wife is over worked so she was sound asleep too.
Tornado's scare the shit out of me. Back in the summer of '74 we had one that came over our home place and I was there and awake and worried when it came through. The next morning when I went out to check it out it had twisted all the trees in the front yard off about 20 feet from the ground but never as much as lifted a shingle on the house. Yes a close call. It done a lot of damage in town about a mile away as a crow fly's
Stay safe and above all else hold your wonderful wife close. If I remember right she's not feeling so well here these last few day so this will be hard on her.
