Trump: If Clinton ‘were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote’

Source: Washington Post

NEW YORK — While celebrating sweeping victories in five primaries Tuesday night, Donald Trump mocked the qualifications of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and suggested she was playing "the women's card" to her advantage in the presidential race.

Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don't think she'd get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she's got going is the women's card,” Trump said during a news conference at Trump Tower. “And the beautiful thing is, women don't like her."

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s wife, Mary Pat, who was standing behind Trump, appeared to react negatively as he made the comments.

***
"It's not sexist. It's true. It's just a very, very true statement. If she were a man, she'd get 5 percent. She's a bad candidate. She's a flawed candidate," Trump said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Wednesday morning. "She's not going to do very well in the election, and I look forward to showing that."

Hillary is the most qualified person running for president. That she also happens to be a woman is the icing on the cake. She should rightfully be proud to have made it this far. Personally, I'm beyond thrilled that a woman will be the nominee of the party.

It's about damn time!!!!

I don't think that Trump is playing the game that is usually played. He's not obliging "being on the defensive" or acknowledging "shift in momentum" as might be done by some others. He's set up another game, on his own terms.

I've spoken to a disturbing number of rank and file Democratic voters who are supporting Hillary because they think it will be "Bill's third term".

I was just talking to a guy two days ago who said flat out "Hillary is getting the keys, but we all know it's the man who runs the house." All I could was look at him and wonder why he even considered himself a Democrat. I can't stand Hillary, and I still found it offensive as hell.

Trump went after Hispanic-Americans, and lost the swing vote Republicans needed to win the White House.

He kept it up, expanded the vitriol, prolonged the primaries, and now Republicans are in danger of losing the Senate. If they lose 16 seats instead of the dozen they're already in danger of having flipped, it becomes a filibuster-proof supermajority.

If he keeps up the misogyny, we might just bag the House, too.

If we get all those things, even for two years, we get a permanent pick-advantage in the Supreme Court as well. We get to write stronger gerrymandering laws so that the disaster of the past two decades can't happen again. We get to secure elections against theft. We get to dismantle the for-profit medical insurance industry. We get to sideline three generations of Republican operatives by opening investigations into two-dozen government-wide crimes. We get to raise taxes on the rich and force the most sociopathic of them straight the hell out of the country, forever.

We get to lift ten to twenty million people out of poverty, raise the minimum wage, demand equal pay for equal work, end corporate welfare, end dependence on fossil fuels....

So please, keep being an asshole, Donald Trump. You have the chance to be the most important asshole America ever spawned.
