Updated 3:29 am, Wednesday, April 27, 2016
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Police say an Ohio man shot and wounded his own son after mistaking him for an intruder.
Officers responded to a Columbus home Tuesday morning for an unknown complaint.
When they arrived they say 51-year-old Biyaga Ceesay told them that a stranger had shot his son. Later, the man said he accidentally shot his son because he thought he was an intruder trying to rob the family.
The boy is hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to recover.

(101,321 posts)According to witness accounts, Prices 2-year old child retrieved a firearm that slid out from under the drivers seat and shot through the seat, striking the driver. The drivers mother and one-year-old child were in the front passenger seat. The children were not in car seats.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, deputies found a security officers gun belt, belonging to the victims boyfriend, on the floor of the front passenger seat. The 40-caliber firearm was found on the floor of the back seat behind the drivers seat.

So, it looks like he was armed for his profession, so was presumably trained.

(34,582 posts)you always ID'ed the bird in flight (and they can fly fast) before shooting. This was especially important as you did not want to get caught shooting a female pheasant. You also had to be aware of other hunters around you, so as to not fire in their direction. Why can't people get "identify target before pulling trigger"?
