Publicist: Prince cremated, celebrated in private ceremony

Source: Minnesota Public Radio

Prince was cremated and celebrated afterward in a small, private service by a group of his "most beloved" family, friends and musicians, his publicist said Saturday.

Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement that the 57-year-old music superstar's family and friends gathered "in a private, beautiful ceremony" to say a loving goodbye.

The publicist's brief statement repeated that the cause of Prince's death was unknown, and said autopsy results wouldn't be received for at least four weeks.

The statement said Prince's "final storage" would be private.

I was surprised to read this, for it seems soon to me.
I guess if there is not a viewing. I don't know it seems soon.

A private funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at Paisley Park, attended by, among others, Sheila E; model Damaris Lewis; Prince siblings Tyka Nelson and Omar Baker, and Prince’s close musical and spiritual mentor Larry Graham, decked out in a purple suit and hat.

Afterward, Paisley Park staff handed out about 300 purple boxes filled with Prince souvenirs to fans congregated outside the complex....

...In the meantime, the people closest to Prince are not talking — his assistant, Meron Bekure, and Kirk Johnson, a longtime friend who served as aide-de-camp, running Paisley Park and playing drums in Prince’s latest band.

The two passed out pizzas Friday afternoon to fans outside Paisley Park. Helping out were Hannah Welton, the now-pregnant drummer for Prince’s former backup band 3rdEyeGirl, and her husband, Josh Welton, who coproduced Prince’s latest albums.

but I think it is incredible that the people who were closest to him and certainly hurting more than any of us are, took the time to show his fans that their support was appreciated.

I think it's pretty well agreed that he wasn't murdered. Details of the cause of death will be released as they are known, or they won't be released. Not really any of our business.

RIP

It seems families do not normally wait for autopsy results to be released before burying a family member. I would only think something might be wrong if the family moved to cremate the body without allowing an autopsy. Since an autopsy has been done, it is likely that at least a few questions will be answered.

His family as well as other families might just want to get closure as soon as possible. If they waited for autopsy results they might have had to wait weeks to bring an end to this chapter.

it there was any reason to think it might hold more answers.

Tox screens can take a few weeks, don't read anything into this.
